wanted to place my order, but noticed that the delivery date will be October 10th,
as it's gonna be a back-to-school gift for my niece, I think i should consider another one :(

Rakuten at 15% today. I think that's as high as I've seen it.

Mine was ordered on the 17th of August, had a ship date of the 15 of September and a delivery date of the 28 of September. It has already shipped on Friday....

Wow, pre-tax price of 506$. Has to be all time low.
If I factor in the Amex 10% back on Dell purchases (after tax), that's enough to push me off the fence.... makes it around $450 pre-tax.

Not in a hurry to upgrade from my i3. But should I wait for Black Friday or this is as good as it can get? Though looking for the Inspiron 15 AMD, 5700U/16GB,/1TB version which is $999 currently.

They started excluding doorbusters from the newsletter discounts some time ago, but the $650 sale on the 5500U doesn't seem to be marked as such.

Did you get the code from Dell consumer account or Dell business? Try the code on a Vostro or Latitude or check the email to see if that was sent from Dell business store.

People around you may have weaken immune system (or live with one). Wear a mask if possible, especially if you have cold symptoms.

Is it better to get the 5500U model and upgrade the ram/storage later on or just go for the 5700U model? And anyone know what dell's policy is on warranties and non-dell upgrades

FYI, purchased the Dell 5500 yesterday and my 15% cashback from Rakuten hasnt shown up in my account. I messaged chat agent, and provided them a copy of my sales order and it was added to my account. All done in 5 mins, pretty easy.

I would say on CPU difference, there's a +10% boost to single-core performance and +30% boost to multi-core performance. Unless you have specific use cases though (specific, prolonged, CPU-intensive tasks) I don't think the upgrade is worth it for the CPU. The iGPU on the 5700U is better as well, but both are for light casual gaming at most so I'm not sure that difference matters much.

For RAM and SSD, 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz SODIMMS would run you $130+tax, and a 1 TB M.2 SSD would run you $120+tax.

I think if you're going to need the extra RAM/SSD space soon or immediately, the $250 upgrade is worth it from Dell - and you get the CPU boost as a bonus, plus warranty coverage for all components. If you're thinking you'll upgrade 2 years down the road, then I would take the savings now and go straight to 32 GB (2 x 16GB) in the future.

These two are close, except one is Intel and one is Ryzen. Small price difference too.

Is the difference so big when it comes to browsing on Chrome and doing Microsoft Office?

make sure you look into the chassis. the intel one is older 3511 i think, and it can't even output >1080p via the external HDMI port.

Alright thanks! I know more people have recommended the Ryzen despite 5500 but the higher original price of the Intel version had me scratching my head.

I've heard of incompatibilities with zoom, you have to turn off hardware acceleration (or something). Probably not a deal breaker for most.
