[Dell] Samsung Gear Sport SM-R600 - $249.99

This is the lowest price the Gear Sport has been to date. Price match with BestBuy for an extra 10% off the difference (currently 299.99 there). The Gear Sport was released this past October, so it's unlikely the new Gear S4 flagship will be out anytime soon (and definitely wont be at this price point). I've tried this and the Garmin Vivoactive and prefer this much, much more - looks much nicer on the wrist, amazing quality screen, and the rotating bezel is very convenient. Also has a mic (no speaker) and many more apps and watchfaces than Garmin. Have had some issues with floor counting (it doesn't count floors at all for me) and swim lap count is off by a few laps. Not sure if this will be fixed in future firmware updates.

Good price but I don't need a smart watch. All I want are tracking of daily calorie burn, HR, step, and maybe sleep. What is the best out there? Should I stick with Polar and get the Polar A370? I have Polar H10 already for exercise.

No issues with non-samsung phones. I'm using mine with a cheap LG and everything works fine.

Thanks Op, you just saved me $55. I purchased this from BB at Christmas and this was just within their price protection window :)

Has anyone used a Samsung watch with iOS? I have heard it is hit and miss...mostly misses though. Apparently Apple does not want to make Samsung watches compatible with their phones. I currently have a Fitbit Charge 2, and I hate it. Horribly inaccurate, so I was hoping to try something different. Thanks.

@AtticusFinch thanks for posting the deal. I'm thinking of buying the Samsung sport have you used the watch for running outdoor/treadmill/swimming?? how does this compare with Garmin Vivoactive 3. I'm going to use the watch mainly for running and some swimming.

I want the same thing and found this Fitness Tracker on Amazon.ca. It looks promising but Fakespot rated it an F.

Do people know any other alternatives out there that's worth considering?

I got it for running. I've previously used TomTom and had a Garmin Fenix 3 for about 3 months. It's been so damned cold in the past 30 days here that I haven't been able to run much outdoors to test it. Some people have reported accuracy issues with its GPS (there's a huge thread about it here: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/11/que ... l#comments), while others report it working well. I haven't seen any issues myself. One of the things that makes it difficult is that there are so many running apps available for it ... the native one, endomondo, map my run, run4gear, sporty watch, etc. So to test them all and determine the best could take a while. Syncing with Strava is possible depending on which app you choose. I've been using run4gear and it reported the two runs I did perfectly (compared with Fenix 3). Battery life with run4gear is only about 4-5 hours, so it could be tight if you're planning a marathon. It has fewer bells and whistles than the Fenix 3 in terms of running, but as a smartwatch it offers much more (and that's why I'm keeping it) and the OLED touchscreen is so much nicer than the Fenix 3. On the treadmill the native app doesn't seem to try to estimate your distance, but maybe there is an option somewhere (it wasn't important to me because I have an ifit treadmill that logs runs). I think one of the other running apps I mentioned does estimate distance on treadmill (I seem to remember seeing it, but not 100% sure).

I don't have any usage experience with running, but quite a bit with swimming. You can set the pool length size and it gives quite a bit of telemetry data (SWOLF score, strokes per lap, avg time per 100m, etc). Samsung has the speedo on app, which garmin doesnt yet. I find it to be anywhere from 8-12 laps over the actual # of laps swam in a 4k swim in a 22m pool. Swimming less distance should be less of a discrepancy.

The Vivoactive battery drained over 75% in a 2 hr swim for me. There is no water lock mode in the garmin, but the samsung does have this feature. Water lock mode is auto activated when you start your swim workout, so when you swim, the screen isnt always turning on with your arm movements (gesture wake) and water droplets arent mistaken for touch and turning the screen on. So with the garmin the watch screen was almost always on and draining the battery extensively. Not sure why garmin didnt implement this feature but it was a dealbreaker for me since i could only use the watch for my swim and then it was more or less dead.

The samsung also has wireless charging, just place it on the dock, while the garmin is a plug to charge (so need to make sure the ports completely dry before charging, i think garmin recommended waiting an hour after the swim). And the screen quality on the garmin vs samsung is night and day. For a 2017 device, the garmin felt very outdated. Build quality on the samsung is also much better than the garmin vivoactive, with a nice solid heavy feel.

For the people asking about other trackers, the main defining feature of the gear sport (vs gear s3 and other cheaper trackers) is the ability to be able to swim and track swims with it. A lot of others are water resistant in the sense you can shower or get them wet a bit, but cant swim with them. So if you dont really need this feature, plenty of other options out there. Although at $250 right now for the gear sport, i still think its probably your best value. DC Rainmaker has plenty of in-depth reviews on wearables to help you decide - https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/11/win ... tions.html

Great deal. Had been looking at this one for a while to move from a gear fit 2 and $300 was an OK deal but $250 is much nicer.

Should be a couple days minimum based on reviews without using GPS. Lots of variables though such as wifi, bluetooth, wake when you move your arm, brightness. I have a gearfit 2 and it can depend on firmware as well. Sometimes it would be less and then fixed shortly thereafter. I do just drop it on the magnetic charger when I shower in the mornings anyways so it is at 100% when I leave.

Besides not being able to use Samsung Pay, what other features would I be missing out on? I'm using a pixel 2 XL

Lifetrak C410. Amazingly accurate (tested it with a heart strap, always within 1-2 beats) and the battery lasts 12 months

I don't think really anything coming from a gearfit 2 on pixel 2. You do need to install the gear app and then some plugins to get it to work though compared to on a galaxy where it is just the gear app.

Just did a quick research on the difference between Gear Sport and S3. The biggest deal-breaker for me is that there's no speaker on the Gear Sport meaning you won't be able to answer your phone calls and play music from the watch.

You can't play those on the watch itself, but you can use it to control it with the sound on headphones or your phone's speaker.

I love the wireless charging feature. It makes it charge slower than a direct wired connection would, taking 2.5 hours. However, I will take the longer charge time in order for my watch to be fully waterproof!

The watch is built to Military spec MIL-STD-810G, meaning it is built to handle a decent amount of shock, vibration, temperature, and impact. Definitely as sturdy as it feels. I ordered a black stainless steel watch band to go along with mine, and I think it looks great. I go in the water with mine all the time.

It's 2 days.

It's funny, I was debating between the two as well, and biggest deal breaker for me is that the S3 is not waterproof! I couldn't believe it wasn't, and then discovered that most smartwatches from the S3's generation of smartwatches are NOT waterproof. They say they're splashproof, but with a rating of only IP68, I wouldn't even want to wear it in the shower. Some people say that they can, but, that's not a risk I would take.

I love the Gear Sport because it is rated for 5 atm (50 meters!), so I don't have to worry at ALL about getting it wet. Can jump into the pool with it, take a shower with it, go snorkeling with it, have fun at the beach, wash dishes, never have to worry. Functionally, this was a feature I would have much rather have wanted and used. I personally barely talk on the phone anymore unless it's a video call, and personally don't like to listen to music on a tiny speaker. To each their own.
