Dell XPS 13 9343 vs ASUS Zenbook UX303LA

I'm wondering which of these 2 is the better buy from the Microsoft Store. I'm looking at the base configurations w/o Office 365. Here are their product pages:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msu ... .312471000
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msu ... .313371600

Both are available for $799 after the grad discount, but the Asus specs seem to be a better bargain compared to the Dell (8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD).

This laptop will be used for general surfing, word processing, statistical analysis, and image processing (pathology). I'm wondering whether 4 GB of RAM from the Dell would be enough. Resolution is not an issue for me as long as it is at least 1920x1080. Weight is a factor - lighter would be better.

Thanks.

Side question: If anyone can find the best deal for a Dell XPS 8700 (used for the same purposes as above), please let me know. Trying to go below $1000.

Thanks for your input, eldiablo. The code doesn't seem to be working for me. Is it specific to the Windows 7 build or the Windows 8?

Also, reliability would be important to me - I'm not sure if Asus would let me down for that.

I checked the coupon code and it looks like it has expired. My apology for that.

Another coupon code for XPS 8700 : X4V2HWDGX1B9SC

Unfortunately it is much less than the previous: $50

^^^^^ this one comes with a DEll 24" monitor for the same price $799!! :D

Wow, didn't know they had crazy discounts like that. I already have an Ultrasharp so perhaps I'll hold off until there's another 30-40% off code (signed up just for that!).

I did happen upon one build for sale by Newegg: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/DELL-XPS-X8700-4 ... 2a4b5ddb15

Specs seem great, but I'd rather pay $480 instead of $930. :P

Another vote for Asus here.

BTW, why are your links for the US Microsoft Store?

That's a costly error I should have noticed earlier...
