Diadora are not good bikes. They are sold by sportchek primarily.

The Northrock bikes are made by Giant. Hence why they have a better rep.

Can you detail what you mean by better parts?

Also, does London Drugs hire "bike mechanics" to come in and assemble these? I would expect that they just use one of their regular employees and that they don't do that many. e.g. a London Drugs store might assemble a couple dozen bikes in a season whereas a Costco store would do hundreds. All things being equal, I'd rather go with the guy with experience doing hundreds.

According to the flyer, it claims their bikes are assembled and tuned by Velofix, a $129 value.

Bikes are mechanically Shimano. The frame and paint are brands. Learn about the range of Shimano components and you'll understand what separates bike shops from Walmart / Cdn Tire. I know that's a pretty general statement but a good start for some.

The $599 bike is Tiagra and the $750 is 105 Shimano Derailleurs. You won't find 105 in any Sport Chek

Look at comparable components in bike shops.

https://bikesandbeyond.ca/product/norco ... 3844-1.htm A nice shop on my ride home. Cheapest with 105 components.

Let rephrase. Better group set. Tiagra vs Sora. Alex rim vs no name. Alex rims are heavy. But long lasting.
Giant made OEM frame for half the brand out there.

I agree, on the Diadora Firenze Comp, it has a carbon fork and the 105 Shimano group set is fairly high-end. Better then the Tiagra groupset on my $1500 Giant Defy bike.

This is a really good deal for 105 and Tiagra bikes! And they are assembled by Velofix, which is actually a really reputable mobile bike shop.

It's not a full 105 groupset though. Brakes are Diadora branded...so probably Tektro or something. The cranks are FSA and to boot, it's still a 10speed bike.

Bear in mind this is really really old stock. If you go to the Diadora website, they don't list any bikes beyond 2014.

The 105 on these bikes is the 10 speed 5700 (pre-2015), and the Tiagra is listed in the the Diadora specs as a 9 speed Tiagra (not 10 speed, the London Drugs description appears to be incorrect). So really, any comparison of the 105 or Tiagra on this bike vs a current model isn't valid.

With the Shimano trickle down, I'd suspect the 3000 Sora components on the Costco bike are as good or better than the 4500 Tiagra on these bikes (has under bar tape cable routing for one thing).

Might want to put GVR in the title, as these appear to be available at Lower Mainland stores only.
