Other than possibly the better optical zoom on a digital camera, cellphone cameras have come a long way especially the name brand (Samsung, Google, Apple) cellphones.Wallet_Safe wrote: ↑ Thanks
I asked her same question as she is using iPhone 14. In her last trip, her friend bought digital camera and they were happy with the performance. I have no idea..
For the vacation that I had ~7 years ago, I brought my point and shoot digital Nikon camera and my Nikon DSLR with 3 lenses (but mainly used kit lens for the various pictures that I took... I only used my prime lens for shoots and my long range lens when taking landscape photos. I would say that the pictures taken with my P&S camera were a POS to put it mildly. The pictures with my Nikon DSLR were a lot better. Back then my cellphone camera wasn't that great and I would only use it for things like remembering what was written on the wall/pillar near where I parked my car in an indoor or large leveled parking.
Today, I would still bring my DSLR and would just use the camera on my iPhone 15. I think your daughter should just use her iPhone 14's camera.

Noticed this trend as well. Lot people in instagrams use digital cameras instead of iPhone and you’d think iPhone is better since you can upload photos to instagrams instantlyWallet_Safe wrote: ↑ Thanks

I just sold 5 digital cameras on Facebook Marketplace. I also posted them on Kijjijji.
There are lots of them for sale and good prices too.

I have a Sony Cybershot that I often travel around with.
Sure it's a bit bulkier, but the optical zoom on mobile phones leaves a lot to be desired and simply doesn't compare.
You can't always just "move up". It's not always an option.

I agree with two comments above.
Cell phone if your daughter isn't really into photography, it will do the job well enough.
If she knows how to operate a camera though, I'd look for used Ricoh GR2. Probably above budget, but so small and light that she will enjoy her trip without thinking of the camera. Image quality is excellent too. 28mm probably the most versatile fixed focal length for a vacation trip.
