I went to Flintstones Bedrock City a few times as a kid. Sitting with my brother in the back of a '75 Chevrolet boat with no air conditioning (let alone video games or DVDs - and I'm not that old, I swear), it seemed like the longest ride ever from East Vancouver to Bridal Falls. It's "only" about 90 minutes though. Totally worth it if only for the memories so that your kids can reminisce and post about it on an internet forum in 25 years.
Yikes, maybe I am old.

Since when was saving $1 off a $16 admission considered a hot deal? let alone a deal.

Cold Summer day in Vancouver and an even chillier deal.

Glad to find out about this deal. True $1 off is not a hot deal but I am going to go before they close down forever even for full price.

We took our little boy there last week and he loved it. We actually went twice. The first time we went was on a Sunday and the Bridal Falls area experienced intermittant blackouts so the park was closed.

When we first drove into the parking lot, I was saying to my wife " Wow, that's great, not too many people here so it won't be too crowded". As I was getting out of the car to unload, one of the people in the SUV next to me said that the park was closed!! Unbelievable. I almost felt like Clark Griswald from National Lampoon's Vacacation when he drove all across the country to Wallyworld to find out that it was closed for the season. His solution to gain entry into Wallyworld involved going to a sporting goods store and purchasing a pellet gun to force his way in. Unfortunately for me, there were no sporting goods stores around. It took about 1.5 hours to get there so we were not going to waste the day. Instead, we went to see Bridal Falls, had lunch, drove into Chilliwack for a look, and went to the Fun Castle on the way back to Vancouver.

The next attempt at Dinotown was on a Wednesday and it took almost 2 hours to get there from Vancouver because of all the construction near Abbotsford on the No 1 freeway. It was like 40km/h when we were actually moving. When we got there at about 1pm, Dinotown was open and it wasn't overflowing with people but there were still many people enjoying the park. With the coupon applied, it was $15 for adults and free for those little ones 2 and under. We stayed until closing and could have probably stayed a few hours more.

In some of the small plaster buildings on the site, they still played Flintstones videos for the kids to see. Another interesting Flintstones remnant from the past was a giant green 'the great gazoo' located in the gift shop.

For something else to do before or after Dinotown, drive to Bridal Veil Falls provincial park. The entrance to the park is less than 200 feet from the Dinotown parking lot just to the east. You have to walk about 10 to 15 min to get to the falls once you get to the park. We took our stroller on the trail and it took us about 15 minutes to get to the viewing platform as it was uphill.

I lived in Chilliwack until I was 20 and I only went to Dinotown once when I was little. I also haven't gone to bridal falls, but they won't shut that down. I think anytime anyone in town mentioned it, people would just wonder why it was still open for business..

But I do remember the canoe ride being fun, and also there not being that much to do.

Yup the Flintstones sister park was here in Kelowna, where the Grand 10 Cinemas and Bowling alley are now located. I have fond memories going to the Flinstones park in Chilliwack when I was a kid, and going next door to the waterslides. The park here in Kelowna had its own waterslides.

Its sad to see all the good little family places are closing. Even Old McDonald's Farm in West Kelowna shut down years ago, including the waterslides in West Kelowna. Currently there's a Real Canadian Superstore being built on part of the old property. Even Victoria had a bunch more attractions in the past that have ceased to exist - anybody remember Sealand of the Pacific?

Not many fun places to take the family in this province anymore. Would be great if one of the big entertainment companies (Disney? Universal?) set-up shop in BC and built us a proper amusement/theme park. Anybody been to Disneyland lately? It's still great no-doubt about that, but it's a crowd-control nightmare.

Gonna miss Flinstones. Would love to get one of those pedal cars!

I think it is something unique for us city folk to go to. The canoes looked fun, but my little boy wanted to take the train a few times and explore so we didn't have time for boating.

I also bought some fresh picked corn from one of those shacks by the side of the road. It was $7.50 for 13 ears of tripple sweet jubillee corn, which I have never had before.

The price is not visible on the photo, but the plaster cars are $999. They were baking in the sun and you couldn't sit in them for very long without burning your skin.

Never left OM's Farm without catching a fish ;) ... still have a photo from back then, big grin and all. Also remember getting soaked at Sealand in Victoria.

Thanks for the complement. Dinotown was a great place for family photos since the surroundings were very unique. I even brought along my tripod and remote control and took some pics of my family in Fred Flintstones car and with the Dinotown family.

We also ran into some people in Harrison Hot Springs who saw a story on the news about why Dinotown was closing. Basically, the owner had a brain tumor and sold it offto enjoy life more. When the land developer came along, he got good offer for the land and decided to sell.

I found something similar at the Vancouver Sun:

What I found funny about that article was the references to Disneyland. My parents took me and my sister to Bedrock City, but then in '85 we got spoiled and were taken to Disneyland. I admit, we haven't been to the Flinstones park since. I'm pretty sure I still got some souvenirs from Bedrock City; a Fred Flinstone drinking glass and a felt pennant.

There's still some remnants here in Kelowna from the local Flinstones park. I haven't seen it but rumour has it that some one has the big Fred Flinstone roadside sign stored in their yard. Also, if you go into Freddy's Brewpub (named after you know who) at the McCurdy Centre bowling alley, look at the ceiling - you'll spot the Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble walk-around character costumes sitting in a canoe. :)

To me, this developer that bought the park is the Grinch who stole family fun. Shame on him. > :(
