Disney Movie Insiders - 4K UHD Blurays now available + Free Points

Nice to see them add Media back to the site. AS a Disney / Marvel collector this site was always the best way to get some deals to fill in the collection.

I was excited to get Thor in 4k but it looks like it's gone already,
I did however manage to redeem the final copy of Antman &
The Wasp 4k so thanks for that OP! For anyone else interested
there are still a few 4k titles available like the avengers
movies, the Incredibles, etc.

I don't understand what this is? Can someone briefly explain "Disney Movie Insiders" and how it works?

You get points for buying Disney media or by inputting codes they release. Get enough and you can redeem for free stuff. It is very rare that physical media gets released and eligible to Canadian subscribers so this is why OP posted here.

So what's the difference than just disney+ strictly to own the physical copy? Or your own digital?

Basically to add on to the other post, you also get points if you go see a Disney movie on opening weekend and submit your receipt online.

You get 200 points for buying 4k releases, I believe 150 for standard blu-ray releases, and 75 or 100(?) for DVD releases.

So for example they recently added in Avengers 1 4k and Avengers: Age of Ultron 4k for Canadian accounts, at 1140 points each. At a combined 2280 points that basically required 10 or 11 4k purchases (2000-2200 total points) combined with some free codes. So depending on what you pay for your movies that can be a pretty decent RoI, especially considering the cheapest those movies have been is $19.99 each.

You get a superior physical 4k copy and a digital copy that isn't tied to a Disney+ subscription. Depending on the age of the movie release it'll either redeem through iTunes or Google Play.

Are you referring to Thor Ragnarok 4k? I see Thor Ragnarok 4k as being available for 2000 points and Ant-man & Wsp 4k for 1140 points.

Oh so only good for movies on opening weekend? What about previous purchases that you've never registered? Can you claim those from discs bought in the past or do you need to submit receipts within so many days? Where are the codes located--are they the same as digital (movie) codes you get with the discs? I dunno why I never noticed this stuff...

Pretty sure he means superior in PQ and AQ. PQ, far fewer visible artifacts; AQ is leaps and bounds better. By the time the discs have any "bitrot" which affect playability I'm sure streaming and internet connections will get to that level or beyond, and/or you'll be dead.

Okay no it's separate parts. Opening weekend like, opening weekend in theatres. Also I forgot, opening weekend is for bonus points, you can still get points like the weekend after but you have to submit the ticket within 14 days of watching the movie.

Codes from discs are theoretically claimable forever. Back in December I redeemed a code that came in the Atlantis 1+2 Blu-Ray release and that was from 2016 or 2017. These days the code you redeem through DMI is the exact same code you redeem through the website to get your digital copy. You DO have to enter the code in two separate spots.

Oh hey audit, I was actually talking about the original as it's the
only Thor movie I don't have in 4k, but maybe Ragnarok was
what OP was referring to? Lol. Either way, I'm happy with

The original Thor 4k would have been a great addition for me. It's gone from the site which is too bad.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, I already have every 4k disc they have on offer. Let's hope something new appears in the next few days.

Oh.. Lol that was more basic than I expected. I was thinking like perceptual quantizer or something. So does the physical copy of a 4k movie have better PQ and AQ than a digital version? Two examples, if I'm streaming a "4K" from say Netflix versus watching my own digital 4K copy of like the LOTR movies, is there one better than the other and then the physical is the best? I'm interested because I was a bluray collector and slowed down once streaming quality caught up. Thanks!

It really depends on the streaming service as Netflix averages about 15 Mbps for 4k while iTunes and Movies Anywhere have the highest bit rates for video at roughly 25% to 30% higher than Google, Netflix, and Vudu.

Streaming can look very good but it's the lossless audio from a disc that can really bump up the enjoyment factor for a movie.
