DIY electrical box - non metal wire sheathing

Hi!

I’m replacing a older plastic electrical junction box in the ceiling (used for a light fixture) with a metal box on a ceiling fan brace.

Since the wires have non metal sheathing, what would be the best option to bring the wire into the metal box and pass an ESA rough in inspection ?

The metal box comes with u shaped metal clamps but I’m thinking a rubber bushing might be more appropriate to prevent the sharp edges of the metal box opening from cutting the sheathing. Any experienced electricians or homeowners willing to help out a new electrical DIYer?

You mean something like this?

If you’re coming in where the clamps are then you don’t need anything. Strip the outer sheathing back to the clamp and wire as normal.

I’d you’re coming in from the side (why?) then you’ll need a connector.

Thanks Andy!

Yes I am coming from the sides and can attach a clamp there! This should be according to code right? I have a permit for this work and will be getting it inspected.
