DIY solution(s) to improve your mask

Good (hand) hygiene, staying at home and/or practicing physical distancing remain the best strategies. However, there are times we have to go out.

As restrictions are gradually being lifted, for those that want to leave N95s for front line workers and/or worried about not having N95s, there are a few DIY ways to improve the effectiveness of surgical masks (which are more common now).

Elastic bands to tighten seal
A formal Apple engineer shares a DIY solution to improve the seal on surgical masks. I found the article to be quite informative. ... 5-29-2020/

I've recently tried the elastic bands and it does get uncomfortable for long duration of wearing it, but better safe than sorry.

Combine with face shield
Wearing a surgical mask plus a low-cost face shield has benefits over just a mask with the added benefit of face shields being relatively easy to sanitize.

Welcoming any other suggestions people have come across.
