do I need a membership to shop at costco.ca

Is a Costco membership required to shop online at costco.ca?

No. Costco membership is not needed for online shopping.

No, it's not needed. They used to ding non-members a 5% surcharge at checkout but it's not clear if they are still doing that.

Be aware, though, that the merchandise selection online is very limited, and most of the items are entirely different from what you will find in their stores.

Also note that some merchandise on costco.ca is NOT available in-store.

In other cases, the mechandise on costco.ca costs $10 more than the same item in-store. But then again, costco.ca offers "free" shipping.

I find the funniest thing is that you can renew your membership on Costco.ca using credit cards that aren't accepted in store. I took the step of going to the membership counter to cancel the auto-renew on my Costo AmEx. I renew every year using PC MasterCard or something.

(This is also why they push the AmEx cards so hard. The fine print indicates that they'll auto-renew your membership on the card each year unless you cancel the auto-renew at the membership desk. Costco makes most of their money from membership.)

Is this still valid now that you don't have to be a costco member to shop online at costco.ca?

What did you discover when you looked at the web site?

No need for membership. I purchased some laundry detergent from there in bulk and went through no problems.

I see people are saying this is possible, but I notice the checkout requires Costco membership number. Are people just using a fake number or something?

I believe it asks for a Costco membership number if you happen to be a member, but it is not a required field. Just leave it blank.

Notice there's no asterix beside the membership number at checkout? That means it's not required.

Their return policy for Costco.ca is on the web site.
