Does anyone know the reason why you pay if you deliver a dishwasher to disposal and it's free for collection?

Does anyone know the reason why you pay if you deliver a dishwasher to disposal and it's free for collection?

As per my title, found it confusing that a dishwasher that's delivered to Halton Waste for disposal = $5/appliance whereas if I call for collection, it's free... Got surprised at the results actually... Thought it would be the other way around... (I know if I leave it in the boulevard, someone will pick it up, but what if they don't)...

Thanks

If I had to venture a guess, the one that is collected goes to an organization that repurposes it for parts, whereas the one you take to waste disposal it gets processed with the others to be recycled/trashed and not really sold for parts. So since that organization can resell some parts to cover the cost of transportation, it's "free".

I mean, if you don't want to pay, then just call for it to be collected.

If you're worried about it being picked up, list it for free on kjiji and it'll be picked up before the end of the day.

Thanks @engineered and @enwhyRFD .... more a curiosity... i always thought people will want these things for the "metal"/scrap $? eg dishwater, water heaters, fridge, even ladders? (saw some dude actually disassemble a ladder that wouldn't fit his truck -- like literally unscrewing and taking the pain to disassemble it...

Some repair and resell them, some scrap them for parts, and some take them for the raw material recycling price.

I've picked up a couple lawnmowers people were throwing out. Replaced a $5 part and gave it to family.
