Of course they're going to start raising prices. This shouldn't a surprise to anyone at all.

Surprised that it took them this long to raise it to $5 if I'm being honest. I'll still shop there, but will definitely be more mindful of the prices of what I pick up.

Why do they need announce those kind things? I don't think any other stores do this kind of price hike announcement

Only benefit is to rally their stock price

Time for a name change to Dolla$Rama.

As long as this means that they will be selling stuff worth 5$ instead of just making the 4$ items now cost 5$.

Maybe also because their brand so far has been about buying things for a dollar. If they quietly raised prices like that, you’d be hearing a lot of complaining from customers. Doing this gives everyone a heads up.

Most likely they will make $4 items $5 now. A lot of things have gone up significantly already so they are just milking profits at this point.

yeah I'm thinking many 4$ items will be raised to 5$ but I'm hoping they will now introduce better quality items to justify the 5$ price tag. there's a store called "5 Below" in the USA and they have better quality items that would never be sold at Dollarama because of the price tag.

Considering that almost everything they sell comes from outside Canada, and most of that from overseas, it's hardly surprising that supply chain issues are driving up their costs. That's now both pandemic related and RU/UA war-related.

Containers and ships to carry them are in short supply. Oil prices have spiked upwards so it costs more to move the stuff even when you find something to move it in.

None of this is going to ease up any time soon so this is probably just the first increase of what's in store [literally and figuratively] for us.

Plastic is oil-based & face it, Dollarama = Plasticarama.

Transportation costs have gone up and that gets absorbed into the goods we buy

If anything the quality will start to diminish. It's already happening with other things outside of the dollar store type of chains.

It's surprising how many people do not understand this and just think it's only for the profits. The increase in gas alone doesn't just affect regular people buying gas, it affects the entire chain. Among many other factors as well.

I'm sure that'll happen for a bunch of the $4 items but hopefully not most. Seems like they want to expand what they're offering and I personally wouldn't mind seeing some better items pop up at Dollarama.

Going to pay extra close attention to @stovetop's photo reports to see how things change over time.

Its not exactly surprising given covid inflation rates. Wonder if they will be carrying better inventory going forward. Even as is, there are sometime deals there from the pics posted regularly.

Running joke around here was 4Dollarama. Apparently now it's 5Dollarama.

Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

does it matter?
I was waiting when they will increase. They have already raised many items from $2 to $2.0. Many items in Ats and painting sections cost more now. Acrlyc paints, glue, canvass etcc.
Tried new coffee and doughnut. Found same old stale thing. expected bill of six bucks but it was 600 million. Big mistake so the guy said don't worry it is on the house. going back to McD.
