[Dollarama] Voltax Colour Changing Ambiance Light + Remote (3x AAA not included) $4

These are available in Vancouver/Richmond Dollarama. Compare with $15 to $20 on Aliexpress Ebay Amazon.

It's been working really well. The light is diffused evenly and the red is excellent for midnight washroom run. I was able to run it for 13 hours with 600mAh older Eneloop. I would be surprised if it has a low voltage cut off so be careful with destroying NiMH. I move the light around and charging it once every few days is reasonable. How else would I used up my Ladda AAA?

- The last mode used is memorized except when you remove the battery.
- One remote will control them all if you have multiple

I took it apart. This makes a great flashlight diffuser lamp. I will compare it with the BLF LT1 when it arrives. The remaining LED part would make a great colour ambience if you hook up to USB. The last 2 photos show it working with USB 5V.

Here's an update to the diffuser. I added a mirror to push the light back down. I cut a hole to fit one flashlight. I plan to 3D print a fiction adapter for other flashlights.

I recommend the tech1 submersible lights if the goal is to use it for some DIY.

Using a 3d printer, I printed some hollowed objects to insert the lights into.

Yea they do have a pretty bad battery life. You'll be replacing batteries like water to a horse.
Very good concept, but wish it also worked with usb. maybe rechargeable would do the trick?

I’ve been using it with old Eneloop (600mah). It’s been 8 hours and still at 1.27v It can go probably 13-15 hours a charge. I will see if I can use the rest of the battery today.

Interesting that the ws2812 rgb leds are next to normal white leds. Maybe I need to start doing that in projects. I would assume it would just wash out the color but I guess it works?

Just grab a USB cable and split the pos/neg cable and solder it on the battery clip :)

Saw the Voltax ones in Oakville. Do not remember which store tho.
It used to be only death and taxes were inevitable. Now, of course, there's shipping and handling, too.

Can you post what the inside looks like? Is it just empty space?

The last photo is showing the shallow dome and then whatever behind that is empty space.
The dome allows some light to direct back down. A cap diffuser doesn't work well because the direct space near the tail of the flashlight is dark. This allows a very nice looking lamp and all you need is a flashlight.

I saw them in Richmond (all) and Vancouver (SW Marine Drive ). This was on the day I post though. Every store was stocked with about 6 to 12 depending on shelf space.

The white LED are only used when you choose White color on the remote.
