Can't redeem Air Miles Dream Miles on Cuba vacations?

I just noticed that Air Miles for vacation you would need to book through RedTag Travel, as of March 16, AirMiles has taken out CUBA as a travel destination without any notice. Is this the beginning of Air Miles telling us where to go and not to go. Don't we have a say...
Any comments would be appreciated.

If true, it might something to do with working through a U.S. entity, I wager. Doesn't seem to be Red Tag so maybe the new parent of AM. Looks lie one can't earn AM on Cuba trips
I smile when I see container ships sailing past my house laden with stuff made in China

This

I too took a look

Definitely seems to be unique to Cuba

So I did a bit of digging …

RedTag.ca is part of the Cdn Travel Group known as Red Label Vacations Inc.
RLV Inc owns … RedTag.ca - iTravel2000.com - The Travel Experts - and … TravelBrands.
They in turn are a subsidiary of H.I.S. Co. Ltd out of Japan who acquired RLV Inc back in January 2019

https://www.travelbrands.com/red-label- ... i-s-group/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.I.S._(travel_agency)

So doubtful it’s them changing the parameters
(Besides … RedTag still is selling vacations to Cuba … just not giving out or redeeming AMs for that destination )

Then I dug into the current corporate set up for AirMiles / Loyalty One
I knew going in there had been some recent changes
As Loyalty One has been recently split into 2 separate publicly traded companies
One dealing strictly with the Airmiles Program
And one dealing with building Loyalty Programs for businesses = Loyalty Ventures Inc (NASDAQ = LYLT )
https://www.globenewswire.com/news-rele ... -Data.html

This split had previously been discussed on RFD

Meanwhile … LoyaltyOne the actual parent of the AirMiles Program
Is owned by Alliance Data which was up until June 2019 was HQed in Plano TX
After a change in CEO … Alliance’s HQ moved to Columbus OH

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_DataI

Alliance Data acquired Lon Inc (trademarked as Bread ) in December 2020

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-release ... 86414.html

And as of March 23, 2022 … Alliance Data has changed its name to Bread Financial Holdings Inc
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/alliance ... 09983.html

So ya … it looks like it could be a political type decision made by the NEWLY MINTED … US Based Bread Financial Holdings Inc out of Columbus Ohio

PS … see this is your first post on RFD. So welcome to the RFD Forums.
If you are Airmiles Collector you might want to check out the Airmiles MegaThread in the SHOPPING FORUM where we discuss all aspects of the Airmiles Program

As a U.S. based company, Air Miles' parent has to comply with the quixotic U.S. restrictions on doing business with Cuba--even if it involves a Canadian making a travel booking in Canada for flights operating between Canada and Cuba. It's incredibly frustrating that regulations enacted for U.S. domestic political reasons continue to affect foreigners who have no vote or input into how those U.S. policies are made (we have no vote for members of Congress or the presidency).

That being said, Air Miles booking engine doesn't offer the most complete coverage of the globe to begin with: prior to last November's relaunch it was flummoxed by GYD, the booking code for Baku (Azerbaijan) even though partner airline Lufthansa has offered flights there for years. And at present it's the same with EBL, Erbil in Kurdistan--can't book it through Air Miles even though partner airlines Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines both fly there.
