Driving to Toronto next week...what to do/eat?

Driving from Ottawa next week and staying for 3 days. Any ideas on stuff to do? Not sure if everything is open yet... Any must see destinations? Thinking of going to Toronto Island but not sure what else

Mainly going to eat some good Chinese food... haven't visited in 2 years...will be staying at a hotel in Markham.
We usually go hit up some dim sum and/or cheap food from Congee Queen, HK style cafes, etc. Also open to other types of food, especially if it has a good reputation in Toronto... Kinda like pho/shawarma places in Ottawa?

Pacific Mall is gone now... I remember we enjoyed shopping Vaughan Mills, but that's not an Asian mall.

Food - go to Restoran Malaysia. Not too far from Markham (10 mins).
With kids ? Go to Wonderland.
Downtown - go to the Islands or a harbor cruise.
Dont know the exact dates but the Jays are fun to watch these days though getting a ticket will be tough - booking opens this Thurs.

Thanks! Will check those out. Wifey is 6 months pregnant so probably won't hit up Wonderland this time around.

Is Malaysian food a big thing there? Or just that particular restaurant?

Just this restaurant. My goto in that area. If you have not eaten Malay its sort of like a cross between Indian and Thai.

It is the most delicious Malaysian food in GTA.

It was really bad that Pacific Mall was closed due to fire. Otherwise, each time I visit Pacific Mall, it was a great joy.

Wow, two for two on the Malay place. Must be good.

Where should we go instead of Pacific Mall? Also, any consensus on best Bahn mi in that area?

Other choices that I recommend are:

CASA manila for Pilipino food in North York, or Peking Duck Dayali for Chinese food (not sure if they are open for dine-in)

Would you know any good middle Eastern restaurants in the area? I've been told Toronto has the best Bengali food...?

I don't go out there often (in Calgary) but always drop by Jim Chai Kee Noodles every time I'm in town. Over 20 years at this point.

Just love their wonton.

Nothing fancy but great taste. Bamiyan kebab. 7760 Markham Rd.
Better sitdown experience with a full menu. Paramount. 7720 Markham Rd.

Bamiyan is good. Their lamb in particular.

Paramount? That place is junk and they have that junk in Ottawa.

Here’s a couple good spots not too far from Markham
-chris jerk on birchmount (limited seating. Try to aim for lunch for fresh jerk chicken schwarma)
-El Habanero & Churrobar 4915 steeles for great Cuban food but very limited seat so take out only. Great churro too

Premium Sweets is probably the best brand name Bengali food available. The 95 Lebovic location has dine in and outdoor patio.

Middle Eastern, there are way too many great options in the GTA lol

Third vote for Restoran Malaysia.

If you like it and want something similar but don't have time for a full sit-down meal, you can stop at Satay Sate (near where Highways 401/404 cross) on your way out of the city.

Can you guys recommend on what to get from Restoran Malaysia? Looks really promising from all the votes.
I wonder if their roti and curry or murtabak are good.

The only Malaysian place I've tried in GTA is One2Snacks. One2Snacks - super long wait but I remember really enjoying their Char Kway Teow and Laksa.

For OP, if you visit Scarborough, I'd recommend Thai Room (there's a lot of Thai Room in GTA but they all taste slightly different. The one in 43 Milner Ave is really good). They are run by South Asian people and advertise themselves as Thai and Malay food. Pre pandemic they have clam special on Tuesday that my partner really like. For me, a lot of things there are good. I usually get the fried rice and calamari. Have a nice time in Markham, OP!

For those who have visited Pacific Mall recently, is the tornado potato place open? Tia.

Have to agree that Bamiyan is good. It amazes me how they more or less keep the same quality across all their locations.

Also have to agree that Paramount is garbage.

Used to go to Restoran Malaysia quite a bit in the past (over 8 years ago), but felt that they were not so good anymore and stopped going. Not sure if this has changed over the last 8 years and may have to give it another shot based on the recommendations here.
