DSLReports Website Shutdown......Permanently?

Noticed today/yesterday the site is inaccessible and also that there are some members who also post here on RFD. Kind of a shame, there was some useful information/threads in there especially when it came to bypassing the Bell HomeHub H3K among other things. Anybody know what happened?

They've been on and off over the past few years, particularly since Karl Bode left.

Saw some posts on Reddit suggesting this may be permanent.

What a shame, its been years since I've visited. Definitely a ton of information, though most of it is probrably outdated but fun to look back at.

Speaking of which, I just checked of HowardForums for memory's sake, still there, though seems like its more busy on the US carrier side than the Canadian side.

They've been down before like this. Usually lasted 2-3 days. Currently it gives an error of bad gateway, so their reverse proxy is still working. If they were shut down permanently either nothing would have worked or there would have been a message.

Nope because the Gigahub doesn't have a removable SFP.

You can use passthrough with a router on the LAN port of the Gigahub.

Wow, that's really sad if true. That was a great site with technically inclined knowledgeable members.

If it's gone for good I'm not surprised. DSLr hasn't been in good shape, in terms of usage, for many years.

Independent forums have been living on borrowed time ever since Google de-ranked forum hits in its search results. Without new traffic from search engines, and the new users that stem from traffic, forums either fail commercially or die from attrition when existing users leave.

It's no accident that the many-to-many forums that were the public square of the Internet 25 years ago have all been obliterated in favor of one-to-many broadcast sites (e.g. YouTube) or highly controlled social media platforms (e.g. Zukerbook, MuskTwitter, and, to some extent, newReddit). This is the Internet Google wanted, and DSLr may just be the latest victim.

Haven't visited in a very very long time, last time I used them was when I wanted detailed line stats from my Speedtouch 516 back in 2009. I recall there was a Teksavvy rep on there that would help people out.

Very true, and really sad. The enshitification of the internet continues.

A new similar site for DSLReports refugees has started with a good flow of the old clientele:
https://broadbandbulletin.com/d/2-welco ... d-bulletin

Here's another site where some DSLR folks, who tend to lean right, have migrated to. Unfortunately, it's missing many tech forums:

you know how a certain smaller ISP used dsl forums as a tech support base, to contact their clients on as a support option (that would be teksavvy)? All the personal info from their customers is now stuck on the servers. That includes full name addresses, and I hope nothing personal like date of birth as proof that you are the customer. I told tech support years ago that this is a bad idea. If dsl reports is indeed gone, I hope the owner at least securely wipes the drives and backups before selling the hardware.

What you should really be running is Pihole, but again, you can't do that on Bell. However you have things running, it's not ideal with the Bell Gigahub. It's impossible to completely bypass it. PPPOE seems to be the best way, but even if you do that you are stuck using their DNS server which prohibits you from blocking ads network wide, and also takes away from your privacy. Pihole makes your network way faster as well.

I ran a PiHole on Bell Fibe in 2019 on an HH3000...did something change? I think I flipped my DNS to CloudFlare or something.

This is not true. If you use PPPoE on a separate router, you can define your own DNS

Been trying to sign up on broadbandbulletin.com but keep getting "cross-origin request" errors. Am I doing something wrong?

I and others feel pretty confident that DSLReports is gone for good.

Appreciate it. I tried both Chrome and Edge and get the same error message. I also get the error message when trying to read the threads using any of FF, Chrome, Edge or Safari (iPhone).
