dvi-d to dvi-d or dvi-d to displayport

dvi-d to dvi-d or dvi-d to displayport

Monitor with dvi-d. Docking stn has dvi-d or displayport (can only use 1 or the other).

Thoughts before I buy the appropriate cable on amz

Honestly, I don't think it matters. You're probably going to run into many different outputs. No matter what you get now it will probably change in the future. As in, displayport out now but hdmi in the future. Or USB-C in the future. Or mini displayport. Then the input might change because you bought a new monitor.

One thing I find more useful is to just get an adapter rather than a cable. So, in your case I would probably just stick to a dvi cable. That leaves the displayport open for another monitor in the future. Then you might need a displayport to hdmi later on (just an example).

You get none of that with DVI
But the OP's monitor only has DVI. There's no use in getting a displayport to DVI adapter/cable. The OP can just leave the displayport on the video card open for now.

I just read the original post again. Shouldn’t he already have a DVI cable? Why does he need to buy another cable?

Here is my thought, if you are going to spend money on a cable, buy display port, no point in buying DVI as it is obsolete.

I would never recommend buying DVI to Display Port cable or adapter.
