EB Games Edge Card credits applied pre-tax or post-tax?

I tried ordering something online at EB Games and used the remaining credits on the Edge Card and noticed that it's applied after tax.

I thought I read somewhere that it should be applied pre-tax so the tax is on the discounted amount instead of the original amount.

If you put the credits towards the Edge card, it’s considered a gift card, therefore tax can be applied to the item you ordered. If you put the credits towards a pre-order at the store, you don’t have to pay tax for that portion. You can just park the credits on a preorder and when you want to use it, you have to go back to the store and re-allocate it. Applies only in-store.

So the no tax is only on pre-orders? If an item is out of stock (PS5 / XSX), does it matter if I park it on the gift card or pre-order then reallocate?

No, you can still use it for in-stock items in store. It’s just that people park those credits on pre-order items if they don’t want to use the credits immediately. Credits you obtain immediately after trading in items in-store are tax-exempt if you buy something in-store right away or place them on pre order items. Again, only applies in-store.

For example, if you trade in a $50 game in-store, and don’t want to buy anything in the store immediately, you can put the $50 credit towards a pre order. When it comes time to you wanting to use the credit, go back to the store and re-allocate it to another preorder game or item. $50 is tax exempt. If the item you buy is $80, $50 is tax exempt and tax is charged to the remaining $30.

Thanks, I guess I did the trade in wrong this whole time. Wanted to use my credits on a XSX.
