Jesus, why do these adapters cost so much?
Expensive at $24.99 ? These adapters allow for 4 GameCube controllers. Works out to $6.25 per controller. I had preordered an extra adapter from when they originally released them during wiiU era. I sold the extra adapter for $120.

OOS online. Call before you go to the stores. I went in to one that shows stock but they are all being held for preorders

Is there an issue playing Smash with just the regular joy cons?
No issue. GameCube controllers just felt the best and the overall shape and button shape, positions, and contours were perfect basically.

Yes, now would be a good time to put those on the market. New ones are selling for $40.

Has this come back in stock since?
I’ve been checking pretty frequently, they’re hard to find. Walmart no longer lists them in search but the direct link works.

GC controller is very far from perfect. It’s just what a lot of people have used for nearly two decades with smash brothers.

Competitive Smash players prefer the GameCube contoller because Super Smash Melee (GameCube) was voted into Evolution tournaments for years.
The Switch Pro controller is the most ergonomic controller option on the Switch IMO.

Thanks op, friends looking for one so I'll let him know.
Some people don't understand the concept of supply and demand. Things that are MSRP can still be a good deal.

I managed to get one from ebgames today. Last one left
They seem to be getting stock intermittently. Keep checking their website for locations with stock

Whilst digging through my stash of old console stuff, I came across a PSX to Gamecube adapter. Will test it out later

Update: Darn, it's a PSX to N64 adapter :(

I use PowerA Wireless Gamecube, Wii U Pro, Nintendo Switch Pro, and XBox One S controllers for Smash Ultimate. Not a fan of wires in this day and age and also not competitive enough to care about latency.

My favorite is the XBONE controller paired with the wireless Mayflash adapter. The weight and ergonomics are unparalleled IMO.

Costed $70 ($50 controller and $20 adapter) on boxing day. I paid $50 for my Switch pro controller on Black Friday but still prefer the XBONE setup.

EB Games just took their page down, which was annoying as I was checking for local stock once and a while there, and it did fluctuate at least in ON, some would have it rarely

So are these backwards compatible with the WiiU? (Heck does the WiiU just work for the Switch?) The title makes it seem like it is.
