Jep4444 wrote: The gap between emulating ps2 on a ps3 and ps3 on a ps4 is quite a bit larger. The ps4 processor is not powerful enough to directly emulate the cell architecture(which is actually faster at floating point calculations than the jaguar inside the ps4) so it's not even an issue of Sony knowing what they're doing, code would have to be physically rewritten to even natively support certain games. Here are some quotes from Naughty Dog about simply porting The Last of Us to ps4. They actually talk about concerns about changes in physics because they had to overhaul everything.

Yes, maybe they could get an emulator running to handle games that were sloppily ported but anything that properly used the cell architecture can't be done natively(which is most 1st party games). That is not an issue ms has with the xb1 and 360, otherwise they wouldn't have had to basically rebuild tlou.
Most games arent as low level as the last of us, that handful of games would need special attention.

The problem is the games that are low level are going to be the 1st party titles which are the ones that'll have the highest demand anyways.

We talk about emulation as a very in-demand thing when in reality....I think the majority of gamers want new, exciting stories and a smaller portion want to revisit their last gen. games. The convo is good and hey, I wouldn't say no, but I'd hate if BC was being marketed as a 'selling point' because I'd rather the juicy investment in studios making NEW games (This is why I PS4 rather than Microsoft).

Won't have a 4K TV for another few years...but may bite if they release a PS4 PRO TLOU 2 Edition.

Ok, taking this thread back to its focus, I 'm keen to buy a PS4 or PS4 Pro, what's the best deal out there given I have nothing to trade in and am starting from scratch (I have an Xbox but me+kids want a PS4 so we can play Fortnite with Ps4 friends :) )

Try to find one of the God of War bundles. That is easily the best 'deal' going if you are paying the full amount out of pocket.

I think you will find most gamers don't care about story and just want game play that appeals to them (you will be mislead if you read too much into what people post on forums). For the most part the story in games is pretty much like the story in porn. Also gamers for sure like to play old favorites, especially if they are rendered at higher resolution (pre hd games really do get a big boost on modern televisions when rendered at 1080p or more).

wholeheartedly disagreed. Games now days have stories on par or better than movies and it's an important facet for me personally as it keeps me engaged.

Sony and Nintendo will continue to thrive as they focus on games and exclusives. Microsoft lost its touch after the introduction of Kinect during the tail end of the 360 days but here is hoping they revert back to focusing on establishing new and exciting titles.

Couldn't agree more when it comes to me finding chests in Assassin's Creed...for whatever reason, I find the 'travelling across the map' oddly entertaining (Unity & Syndicate).

Some people do like the stories in modern games, but you will find that most people don't really care that much. Most people don't even finish games and cant remember much about the plots.

Worth it for supersampling and PSVR? No HDR or 4k TV and don't plan on getting one, HDR maybe, when my TV breaks (7 years old Insignia, made by Vizio?)

Regular PS4 actually does HDR so that shouldn't even be a factor in the decision if you get a HDR TV.
