Staples selling for $275 with a code but you need a cart filler. I found this on ebay.ca for $269.99 free shipped.

It's sold by neweggcanada so it's a creditable seller too.

I should mention that you could pick one up for $259.99 during the holiday, so $269.99 is pretty decent as far as a time machine goes.

This is a fairly decent router. I just swapped out my ac5300. Faster speed, and already seems more stable, but time will tell.

Even the router speed test is faster than the ac86u even though it is more or less the same specs aside from wifi 6. I am guessing that means there is better hardware acceleration.

The ac5300 attempted to take all the traffic for the house despite the mesh network mostly wire backbone. The ac86u is allowing the local nodes to take on the nearby clients which explains the speed improvements throughout the house.

Did you upgrade from RT-AC5300 or GT?
I am.still within the return window for GT-AC5300 that I bought open box for $200 and always wonder if I should go AX instead lol

I had purchased the rt-ac5300 last week, but was fairly disappointed. Newegg has an open box ax68u if you are looking for a similar price. The rt-ac5300 is a 2015 router design, the gt-ac5300 is a 2018 update of the design.

So I would expect the gt-ac5300 to be a bit better. If you have mesh though, the tri-band does not help much and the ac5300 does not play well with other lower powered routers.

The main thing the ac86u has going for it, is it seems to work better in conjunction with the ac86u and ac68u nodes. I will probably start collecting ax devices over time. So eventually that will be a win as well. But for now it is an unused feature in my network.

I was thinking of phasing out the ac68u's.

Why does a company like neweggcanada even sell on Ebay. This is a new mainstream item, they should have no problem just selling on there site.

Exposure. eBay is more of a marketplace than the auction site it once was.
