Not the best price (I bought one, last year 159.99 on Newegg via Ebay), but 179.99 still a good price.

If you watch these, the price will fluctuate. With patience you can catch it at a low price like $179.99 while ebay has a %15 off everything code, to bring it down even more. e.g., last August I bought one for $152.99:

ebay-canada-seagate-expansion-8tb-usb-3 ... x-2213476/

(Also, right now, it looks like Newegg is charging $6 shipping - I'm 99% sure I got free shipping back in August.)

They had it for ~150 with a useable 15% coupon awhile back. Ended up $13x.xx. I regret not buying one :(

They are, but you get an SMR drive.

At 150 I’d buy these up like a fat kid eating Costco hot dogs.

You get a SMR drive if you don’t shuck it too!

I have the ebay 10% off code.. $180-$18... free shipping. Thinking of plugging it into my NAS at my parent's place which is just my offsite backup, after a local backup. Wouldn't shuck and put IN nas, it has USB port. Quick storage expansion...

Thoughts on using this for that?

Kaitlyn. You want to connect this on your NAS Usb? I don’t recommend it. The case is not well ventilated so it will get hotter than inside a nice NAS.

But isn't that to say... that this external drive should never be used as an external drive, then?
