[eBay.ca] Sony WH-1000XM4 ANC Headphones $400

Was looking for a good pair of headphones for the office for video calls and music, and these seem well recommended. Fairly expensive, but this Ebay retailer (homeandtechdeals) has them for $400 vs everywhere else at $500.

The ebay retailer is the same one a bunch of people purchased from here grabbed LG CXOLED tv's a little while back and all appear to have had good experiences with them. I actually searched this vendor in RFD before purchasing to feel confident myself.

If you don't care for the upgrades the XM4 has over the XM3, those are a great value proposition for $300 currently. Bestbuy Sony XM3 Even better YMMV deals are likely to occur as these are phased out.

Main upgrades
- Bluetooth Multipoint
- wear sensor - Can tell if headphone is off and will pause
- listening mode - pauses music when you begin speaking
- Improved comfort/product finish
- Improved ANC

Please don't roast me if there's been a better deal, I think these may have been $350 during boxing week, which unfortunately I missed out on. COVID has given me lower expectations for discounts on electronics.

Yeah, this was on for $349 for a few weeks during the holidays. If you missed out then, it's as good of a price as you'll get right now.

Sorry, had to downvote this post.

1. Not worth the price.
2. Quality wasn't that good.
3. Noise cancelling wasn't that good either.

Hard pass.

If you can find KEF Porsche Design Space One, you'll be MUCH happier.

I struggle with concentration and I feel that noise cancellation helps out. However, I feel this headset isn’t as effective at noise canceling as people claim it to be.

Does anyone know if there is a headset with better noise canceling?

I have these headphones and the quality is amazing. I am not sure why so many folks are saying these aren’t great. Sure they aren’t cheap but when you compare them to the Bose or apple ones they almost come out ahead in most categories. Plus, the battery life is awesome and the app it comes with is really nice.

if you don't mind wired and want better sound for office and movies, there is a z7 for sale on audio mart. i am quite a bit crazy there but not nearly as bad as some people. bought about 40 things there in 2 years. i have a z7 and it's really good for movies. for wireless i recommend the w1000xm3, it's easier to wear and can watch movie in bed. guys is selling for 450 for the z7 is a bit high. 400 all in is about right. i just picked up the only demo from headphone bar, the noble savant ii, pretty cheap 250 bucks all in. it's actually really really good, this one is really comfortable in bed also isolate really well. i think in the future IEM is the way to go. you can get really good sound for very little money like the fiio FD1. wireless wise i have tried MW07 and the sony. mw07 is more fun and accurate than sony but not by much and the sony last a long time and goes louder and has great software and connection goes far. i haven't tried the 3 and 4 wireless full size sony yet so just giving some advice only. after playing with audio for a long time wire still the way to go, i feel like wireless sound is always missing something.

What extra noise are you hearing? Active noise cancelling mostly only cuts out white noise (background machinery humming, etc). This is true for most ANC across the board, not jut sony. Other noises like people speaking or random noises spikes are reduced out through noise isolation, basically a seal around the ears.

If you just want to cut out noise, use ear plugs and construction ear protections on top -- or you need/want music, wireless ANC ear plugs and construction protection on top.

Bose has not had better noise cancellation than the Sony's for years. Airpod Max has the best sound quality of the three, but too expensive and heavy. Sony's has a better noise cancellation in my opinion than the AirPod Max, but they both go about noise cancellation in different ways, too bad we cannot mesh them together. The place where the Bose fits in is if you really want a light headset, with ear cups that are comfortable (not as comfortable as the Airpod Max), you don't mind sound that is very generic, but with really good noise cancellation, but not the best. Anyhow, I would stick with the Sony's until Apple comes out with a cheaper Airpod Max that is lighter, and more foldable, because the sound from that is really good for the price.

Depends what ANC you’re talking about. If it’s for calls to “cancel” audio-in, Bose does a much better job than the Sony’s. It took me a while to figure it out when everyone started the WFH. Most people will be looking for that ANC both ways, cause very likely, they either share space with a significant other, or have kids at home.

I guess that’s true if you don’t care about sound quality. I tried them and they sounded horrible. I’m not an audiophile at all but I love music. Those made me hate music.

Sorry, I meant for noise cancellation of ambient sounds, not for calls. The AirPod Max does a better job than the Sony's as well for calls, but I mainly look at ANC for ambient noise and for cutting airplane noise, whenever we are able to travel again that is.

That’s debatable. It’s like shoes , some might find them great , others have a whole different opinion....

lol what? Their testing methodologies are consistent; literally backed by science. It is not debatable compare to anecdotal evidence.
