Not sure why people are downvoting this.

This is a decent deal for a replacement or byod phone. It's new and it comes with a full 1 year warranty.

Maybe because the OP didn't put the important details in the post. It not a very well known phone or phone brand. Snapdragon 675 and these bands:
4G bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 28, 38, 40, 41, 66 - T799B

It's pretty decent for a budget phone - has headphone jack and as well as aptX HD for those who care...

Looks pretty good but the one thing that concerns me is security updates are only guaranteed for another 8 months.

I have a coworker who constantly upgrades their phones because of this. How worried should the average person be? I'd imagine one way to stay safe is to not connect to public WiFi networks.

Not sure how much it matters.
I don't see avoiding public wifi as much protection though. In the past, some vulnerabilities could theoretically be exploited just by sending a text message.

TCL only promises one major OS so it will only get Android 11.

I believe they stated 2 years of OS updates which is pretty standard of name brand devices. I test phones all the time and have used the TCL. The Pro is decent for its price and its already on Android 11.

Isn't this the same company with some really great value TVs at Costco?

One would think(/hope?) that same good value would extend to their other products..
Xphile. (as in 'X-files aficionado'..so yeah, I guess I am old..)

.. Despite what guy in video says, I think they've actually been making the phones/hardware for other brands and manufacturers for some time.... They made the Blackberry KeyOne and Key2, for instance, for BlackBerry. The Key2 reviewed especially well (most competitive specs and price) but is no longer in production so prices on eBay are insane ($1000+).
They are not totally new to this game .

Ever heard of Alcatel and Blackberry phones? Who made them? Answer is TCL. They're a large company.

Based on the pic in the ebay posting, the screen is 'curved' à la Samsung S-series. Some may prefer this type of screen, others may shun this in favour of a flat screen. Also, would it have killed them to make the phone a dual-sim? Maybe it's e-sim compatible...

Not bad for an LTE phone, has band 7, 12, and 17 which covers you for the big 3 AND has band 66 for Freedom. Good to go!
