Significantly more expensive than this deal: Link.

But you don't have to deal with importing from USA and shucking the drive from the external enclosure. May be worth it for some.

It's a decent price. it was $350 at Newegg just a few weeks ago and $375 on amazon.ca in January. I have two of these in my NAS.

Yes, but you can't pull out the drive and use it in the NAS.

Why not? It's a conventional red drive white label.

Man, these guys have started putting protection in their firmware that prevents from taking them out. Ridiculous! Perhaps this one isn't?

Most 3.5" drives are shuckable. Warranty may become an issue but given the price gap these things warranty themselves.

I'm not sure why you would say this when it is clearly false. There are several threads on Reddit and Slick Deals and RFD that says these HDs can be taken out and used in NAS devices.

Next time, do your your research.

Fair comment. Will be mindful next time.

FYI - one of the WD External Drive that I had had a protection on it so people wouldn't use it in other enclosures or outside of WD's shell.

All you have to do is block off the 3.3V pin on your drive and it should read just fine.
