[Ebay/Newegg]Samsung EVO 850 500gb SSD $189.99

Deal Link:
Price:
189.99
(first time posting so be nice lol)

This deal was live a few weeks ago where the Samsung EVO 850 ssd was selling for $189.99 with free shipping on eBay (sold by Newegg) and it sold out before I could purchase one myself. If you missed the deal, you can get it now since it's available again.

I believe this is the cheapest price I've seen for this drive!

Be aware that the previous version of this drive, the 840 EVO, had the slow read on older data issue. They issued a firmware fix that didn't fix it for all users apparently.

This is a new drive, and uses the same TLC NAND as the 840 EVO, so I would be wary of buying these drives at the moment until there is more feedback on it.

No it doesn't use the same TLC NAND as the 840 EVO. The 850 EVO uses 40nm TLC V-NAND vs the 19nm TLC NAND in the 840 EVO. The change in process size makes a big difference in the reliabliability of TLC NAND (source)

Also, the 850 EVO's been out for over half a year. Given the issues its predecessor had, you'd think people would have tested and scrutinized the snot out of it? So far, I haven't seen any major issues reported. I'd say the 850 EVO is pretty safe.

Would this be a good choice to replace the original 500GB HDD in my MacBook Pro (base model early 2011 13'')? I tried a Crucial M100 before and could never get it to work. Apparently this particular model of Macbook has issues with certain SSDs.

Evo is the better deal, $100 more for 4x more storage. Considering how close in performance between two drives are, the price premium you pay for the Pro isn't worth it unless you're hemorrhaging cash.

This deal was also discussed yesterday and this morning in this thread. The one I ordered late last night has already shipped by Purolator. Hopefully I get it before the weekend.

FYI - Out of Stock at time of writing (263 sold). No clue whether these things return to stock at any point. I'll have to wait for the next one..

Many manufacturers deny RMA from anything bought on eBay (whether they are new or used), would this be an issue?

For those who near a Best Buy stocking it (check @ http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/sam ... 66519.aspx), request for a price beat with Canada Computer's (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=080111) and you'll get pretty much the same price.

EDIT: except for QC
