Echo edger attachment: worth it?

I'm looking to buy a gas trimmer and am considering the echo brand (read lots of good things on this forum and tried my neighbour's SRM210). The only thing keeping me from picking one up from home depot (SRM225) is that I've noticed that they are available as separate powerheads to which you add attachments.

The only attachment I'm currently considering beside the string trimmer is the edger:

Has anyone tried it? Is it a big waste of money? I'd use it around the driveway, interlock patio (it can apparently chip it?) and my flower beds (how well does it do curves? my other ones are straight, ~160' long in total for shrubs). The dethatcher would be nice down the road but I think that its' quite expensive.

The trimmer itself is ~270$ but the power head is 340$, edger 150$ and you get a free string trimmer head. That's quite more expensive which is why I'm not sure it's worth it since I don't need the other attachments used by landscapers (ie: broom, hedge trimmer, ..)
