ecobee sensors

i have 2 ecobee sensors. when i am not in the same room as either of those sensors, it does feel colder. does ecobee turn off the furnace when the sensors detect "unoccupied"?

I believe the ecobee will average the temp from the sensors and the main unit thermostat. If the ecobee detects the rooms with sensors as unoccupied and also does not detect any movement in front of the main unit it will turn on the smart away mode and default to your preset away temperature.

I didn’t like the way this worked so I disabled it as I wanted the furnace to function according to the sensor in my child’s room (the thing that also sucked was that the sensor would sense unoccupied even if there was someone in the room, ie. sleeping child).

To stop this, I disabled “Follow Me” and removed the main thermostat as an active sensor in settings (didn’t help that the tstat is located in the main level where it can get much warmer than normal due to sunlight exposure in the space).

The follow me feature will attempt to use the sensors to detect which rooms people are in to prioritize them for temperature calculations. I found it only works well if you have a sensor in each room otherwise it can think most places are unoccupied even if you're just in the next room over.

Also you can set which of the schedules uses which sensors. For example, I have it only use the bedroom sensors when we sleep and the main floor sensors during weekends. On weekdays I also add my office sensor so it balances there too.

Agree with all of the above. I hated the follow me.

I also like to place the sensors close to the spots in a room that we would be located. Different spots around the room suprisingly have some significant differences. For example, don't leave it by a bunch of computer equipment like I did or by a window.
