Electric shaver advice

Hi guys. I've been using Norelco shavers for at least the last 30+ years. I currently have the Phillips Norelco 1250X. It’s one of their SensoTouch 3D models. It must be at least 4-5 years old. I want to get a new one. Do I get another rotary or a foil shaver? Fellow Bogleheads, what do you use? My facial hair is medium thick. I have a goatee which I shape using a goatee guard. I have a separate beard trimmer to trim goatee length.

What model shaver do you use? Do you like it and why? My considerations in buying a new one:
How close a facial shave? And how easy is it to shave the neck?
How expensive are replacement blades? Or does your shaver require you replace the whole head? (I believe that usually costs much more than just replacing blades?)
How easy is it to clean?
Have you tried both foil and rotary? Which do you prefer and why?
Thanks in advance for your input!

Got a Phillips I bought 10+ years ago. Still works great. I don't have a lot of facial hair so it works fine. But if you really have thick facial hair you should try a safety razor.

X3 went with a Series 9 and there’s no turning back ever.

My old Panasonic finally crapped out last year.

I went the foil type Braun Series 7 (7893s) and I'm very happy with it.

Nothing beats the closeness of an actual blade, but most of the time, the convenience of the foil wins out.
What if there were no hypothetical questions? 🤔

Mostly use blade but the Panasonic is very very good. You can get a super close With no irritation. Waterproof, fast charging, holds charge for a long time, reasonable price point and no issues after 5 years of light use.
