Hotels are $$$. Most have very expensive sea plane or speed boat transfers. One resort that looks reasonably priced is the Holiday Inn, which has a speed boat transfer at ~$220USD/adult.

I think it's safe to say that if you are flying to the destination for $1200+ and will be paying more for accommodation and food etc, you are not looking at cheap vacations... :)

Having said that, Maldives is simply beautiful and an amazing experience.

True but if you catch rain for 7 days you'll be pissed, unless it was honeymoon trip
They claim that it is very rare to be rained on, but I know several people who enjoyed rain quite a bit visiting that part of the world.

Been there twice, bit of rain at night, few times, not a problem. No other destination can compare. It's the best in every way. Expensive on all fronts.

They have 2 seasons there. Dry and monsoon. If you go during the dry season, it's fine. During the wet seasons most hotels are 50% off regular price. If you want a water bungalow room, they are roughly $1200 per night to start.

Thanked! This combined with employee hotel discount I can get definitely makes it a possibility.

Emirates offer free stop overs in Dubai, you can always stop there for a day or two.

Great price on the flights.

Wife and i stayed in HulHule for 2 nights. Hotel on the airport island. Was awesome for taking a tour in Male, but it was pricey. Then went to Anantara Dhigu for 11 days. I think it was around 410$ per night for a beach villa. I'd highly recommend it - if anyone is thinking of going. ($8.50 heineken's :( )

Also recently i had a couple buddies who did a surf trip there, where their main expense was not the cost of the boat they were staying on, but the flight. Maybe not where you want to take the W - but if you're looking to go on the cheap, you might want to google around looking for surf charters. Cheaper than the resorts.
