New Delhi is also available for $765-810 depending on length of itinerary. Personally I'd pay $50 extra and avoid an overnight layover in New York.
Other cities in India on sale as well (ie: Chennai/Hyderabad) from what I saw... If you're interested you can play around with the dates.

Great price OP but too much trouble, especially when Emirates fly's out of Toronto. Wonder if they will drop Canadian rates.

Emirates is great. The trouble is connecting through JFK, especially when there is a non-stop toronto Dubai A380 flight.

True. Won't be able to do much with weather like that. 40+ pretty much everyday.

Are those dates set, or can they be flexible in terms of prolonging the trip?

Actually, I have been to Mumbai on business in May. It's not bad at all if you wear light clothing and keep hydrated.

It's nothing like how they portray it in Slum Dog Millionaire. It's a very progressive and hospitable city. Only issue I had was traffic which is apparently a year round dilemma.

It's true that it would be very hot in northern India around that time, but generally flights to points south are fairly inexpensive (i.e. less than $100 each way), which still makes it a cheap trip.

I think you are misunderstanding - you book a domestic flight to wherever you want to go on a separate ticket.
