Employee Health benefits surcharge making tis way across the border?

Wonder what the anti-tipping crowd thinks of this one. What used to be a fee in the US has made it's way over into Canada in some spots.

The EHB is anywhere from an extra 2-5% charge on your bill to cover the costs of employee benefits. In the end your going to pay for this anyways but I would expect most restaurants to hide it in the food pricing.

What employer expense will be next to be hidden from the customer price and tacked on to the end of the bill?
Electricity charge?
Employee uniform laundry fee?
Fire system inspection and extinguisher recharge fee?
Elevator inspection fee?
Property tax fee?
WorkSafe premium fee?
Staff break room furniture replacement fund?
Our-insurance-premiums-have-gone-up fee?

It’s insane!

Everything should be included in the posted price, INCLUDING the taxes.

There's no justification for added fees. That only serves to piss people off, because just like before tax prices and tipping...jeezuz...just adjust your prices accordingly so people know how much they're going to pay.
In the end your going to pay for this anyways but I would expect most restaurants to hide it in the food pricing.
Most businesses do already. If your costs are increasing by X % then figure out how much you're prepared to absorb and how much you want to pass on.

What next? A napkin fee? A toilet paper fee? A fee for ingredients?

Before too long, going to a restaurant will be like taking a super low fare airline, where you have a low base price and every single thing you use is an add-on.

I would never go back to place that doesn't include everything in the price.

At least that way you know up front what the cost is and can compare that to other restaurants for the same meals before you decide where to go. I hate when they add things to your bill at the end.

Seriously, what's next? Electricity fee? Cleaning fee? Shareholder fee? Management fee? Property tax fee? Fee processing fee?

Pretty sure you're in your rights not to pay any costs not disclosed before you get the bill.

All overhead should be built into the price of an item.

any businesses adding these fees after, must be boycotted at all cost.
is it costing more to run the business?
fine, work that into your menu price, let customer decide before going in.
I already hate adding GST/PST/HST whatever ST on top of the price tag, now I take more charges into consideration? no thanks!!!

I would be rich by cooking at home if I charged all of those fees.

Bring it on, its time to shutter these restaurants for good. If they keep it up good luck attracting/keeping customers bcaz even the current prices are insane.

The cost of one meal at any restaurant is now like so much that u can make several meals if cook at home. Crazy. A plate of 2 kebabs was like $6 but its like $15 now, no thanks. I’m buying minced meat and making more at home……restaurants go screw yourselves. Not paying thosr prices fir you.
No care if u go outta business with those ridiculous prices.

Restaurants are next on chopping block….keep it up with that tipping shit and increases in prices.
Wont be missed.

Any added fees are coming out of the tip I leave. So if the fee was 3%, and I was going to tip 15%, now I'm only tipping 12%.

Yeah, I know it's not the server's fault, but restaurants are expensive enough as it is now.

That's why I like to pay cash for take-out at malls/stands whenever possible. No debit machine asking for an 18% tip.

I mean, I have no problem pressing "skip" or "no tip" either, but if what I'm buying is a few dollars, it's nice to have a couple of toonies on hand.

I get the tip fatigue but every time I see a post like this I wonder if the person writing it has bought food in the last 2+ years.
I don't understand how anyone can be surprised at seeing a tip option when buying food unless they have lived under a rock for the past several years. It's not new, It's not going away and it's everywhere.

Now if this post was changed to "I went into the grocery store and they asked for a tip option", that would be a surprise.

It's way beyond food. The tip prompt is now in the most unexpected of places, including at the fix-it-yourself bike repair shop. I paid for an hour of time and was prompted to leave a tip. I thought I gave myself excellent service, but was pretty sure I was going to see none of the 15% tip I would have left for myself. So I chose $0.

i;m going to double down on my post

I'm going out to grab take out not barter with a car dealer about different snuck in fees.
what do the last few years have to do with anything my employer doesn't have a tip option when they input my salary..

should i whip out my terminal and ask for payment as im ordering food or whatever. sounds stupid doesnt it just like tipping or any added fees. the fee amount should be the amount i pay minus taxes which even could be included in the price.. wouldnt it be refreshing the price showing $7.54 and thats the amount at check out? LCBO has a bunch of taxes and they show the final price

if a business cant stay in business that maybe means prices are set incorrectly or its just not a business worth while to run.

whats next they are going to do start protesting that people arnt paying more than the posted price.

Tipping is out of control, I agree.
I think you misunderstood my post.

My point was "tipping" at a take out counter for food is not new. It should not surprise anybody who has gone out for take out in the last 2+ years that every single place that serves food has a tip option on the debit/credit terminal.
It shouldn't be the "wtf" moment you described unless you have been living under a rock for the past 2 years or literally have never eaten take out food or food served at a kiosk in years.

a "wtf" moment would be going to Shoppers and seeing a tip option.
