"engine spa treatment"

So it's dirty under my hood this year.. not sure why.. but...

Are these "engine spa cleaning" services any good?

1) They're gonna hose down my engine, it'll look pretty, but is that going to be ok/safe for all the other items there? batter, wires etc?

2) It's dirty, aesthetically not pretty but does it matter if its "dirty"?

I don't want to spend the $100 or wait for a groupon for $50....

It makes no difference if it is dirty or not.
Generally, a detaining of the car at a detail shop includes power washing the engine. that is a better place to drop your 100 bucks.

Engine shampooing should cost you no more than 35 bucks without any groupon deals.

People make an everest out of the rare odd complaints about power hoses spraying water into the niches of electrical circuits in the hood and the ensuing problems. But it happens very rarely and engine shampooing is here to stay with many happy customers.

It makes no difference whatsoever.

It's safe as long as the place knows what they're doing (they should seal off fuse boxes, batteries and the like).

While it may not be a Everest, it is not just a bunny hill either. It does happen and happens frequently. It is very important to shield the electronics from water spray, let alone a high pressure spray. If nothing else, it is common sense.

I lost my car due to some fool on groupon. Took my car for a detail came back and the car was fried. It was an MB E500, I'd recommend you watch where you go.

Why not try detailing it yourself, you don't really need to hose it down. I don't.

Just go to a carwash, (wand wash) open the hood and spray down the engine, try to stay away from the electronic modules with the wand. I do this at least once a year on all my vehicles and never had no problem $6.00 vs $100 is a lot of savings.
