These PC offers are getting worse by the day, but better something than nothing....

10,000 points for a car wash now...

My points could redeem at least 25 Premium car washes, but now... only 9

I hate this program (for Esso)...

The offer I got is to make THREE separate purchases of $30 or more for 3000 points. Even at these prices, I don't think that's happening.

This is horrible. I only go for the 2000 points for $20. Just open a lot of accounts for everyone in family (don't link them) and cycle through as needed. Over the long term, it works out.

Esso and Optimum simply transferred the dollar value of your points into the same dollar value in their program. The problem is that there were some really good redemptions (car wash for example) within the Esso program. I knew we would lose all of those and they weren't coming back.
Now, it's $10 worth of points to get a wash that's worth more than that, so to them, it's still a deal (it is, truthfully). It's just not as good as the old Esso.

However, the program has now expanded and you can get gas and spend the points on groceries or vice versa, which is good for a lot of Optimum collectors who "don't know what to spend their points on."

Just forget about the old program and it will be easier that way. Compare the new program to everyone else (Shell, Pioneer, Petro, etc) and go from there, best thing you can do.

ya, I understand that and I know people can easily get more points at shoppers with 20X events and so on. Just personally hate the way I can’t redeem as much car washes as before since I don’t go shoppers and also I don’t do other PC points collections.

YMMV on these coupons. I got 2k for spending $20+ weekly instead but no monthly.

I personally use Petro Canada on a regular basis for their 3c off per litre. This offer still equates to saving more per litre than I would by spending $60 at Petro Canada.

It may be a deal for some, may not be one to others.

On one of my cards, I got 2000Pts on $20, but ALSO got 2,000Pts on TWO SEPERATE $30 Transactions. I can make that work, combine it with the $0.05/L Team Canada discount card, and paying with my PC MC.

Esso is way more expensive than any other gas station in my area. Zehrs is the most expensive grocery store.

These reasons are why optimum in my opinion are absolutely useless. You are spending way more money shopping at an overpriced store in order to compensate for a rewards program. Not worth it at all.

Location dependent. In the greater Toronto area, Esso is probably the most widely available gas station and is at par with other stations. I've never paid more to shop at Esso unless we are comparing it to a no-name brand, which no major gas retailer can compete with.

There are lots of members who find ways to make the Optimum program work for them. Some items do not have a premium and on sale days / Optimum promotions are actually cheaper than any other store, it all depends.

One account has 3k points for $30 spend on gas.

Another account has 3k points for 3 x $30 spend on gas.

I know which one I'm using.

I got 3000 for 3 purchases of $30 in a month. I only fill up once a month, so they randomly send these offers, not based on history.
On the other hand, my Mobil gas station is 3 cents lower than others now, so it can't hurt.

I do what this guy does, I have 9 cards. At least 6 of them get the 2000/$20 offer every week. This brings gas as an example from $1.70L down to $1.53L factoring the points @ $20 spend, saving $0.17/L.
