ESSO / PC Optimum Points: Redeem 4K Points and Save 10C/L

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong area. I am curious as to what the consensus is on this promotion.

I tried this out the other day. I purchased 63.954 litres of fuel at $1.595 per litre. That is $120.01 for the fuel. I redeemed the 4K points to bring it to $98.01 and earned 630 points on the purchase.

I gave up 4K in points to have my purchase reduced by $4 so I really didn't save 10C/L I simply redeemed my points. Thoughts?

I'm assuming you made a math error on $120.01 minus $4.00 = $98.01. That's a $22 difference, not $4.

You used 4,000 PCO points to save $4. 0.1¢/point is the standard value you'd get at RCSS or No Frills for them. So nothing really to see here. I'd only do it this way if I was in a rush to redeem points and didn't want to wait until I could collect another 6k points to reach 10k, which is the minimum to redeem at RCSS.

63.954 litres of fuel at $1.595 per litre = $102.01, not $120.01. So $102.01 - $4 = $98.01.
It says 10 cents off per litre on max. 40L in single fill when yo redeem 4000 pts. it doesn't say redeem 4000 points for every 40L. So it is a flat $4 off per fill, no matter how many litres you fill. If you have more points & want to redeem more than 4000 points, you should buy multiple fill transactions of 40L each & redeem 4000 points each. Since you filled only 63.954 litres , it is not enough to fill 2x40 litres in 2 fills of 40 litre each.

Yes - $102 not $120. Apologies.

Yes - I understand the 40L maximum.

My question was the value of this promotion. I see little value here as a straight PC Points redemption.

It’s just a more convoluted way to redeem points. The only way I see it useful is if you don’t have 10k points to redeem for groceries, but you do have 4k and just can’t wait until you earn more. Otherwise, the gas redemption is totally ignorable.

That is not a promotion any more. It is the standard one all the time until PCO/Esso decide to change again.
If you know the rule, just follow it. why did you buy more than 40L & expect more value from the redemption? I bet you didn't know that when you filled up, until you read the posts here.

I am saying I see no value in it at all. Promotion, offer - whatever you want to call it.

I was filling up. Period. I saw the sign, cashed in 4K and had a look at the receipt. I see this as a next to useless promotion / offer and thought I would poll the forum.

All due respect, your tone is condescending and rude. I hope you do not talk to your co-oworkers, friends and family in that manner. You certainly do not make an infrequent poster want to participate on the forum.

I am very sorry if I hurt your feeling. Since you said 'I gave up 4K in points to have my purchase reduced by $4 so I really didn't save 10C/L I simply redeemed my points.'. That sounds like you didn't understand the rule completely. Are you expecting to save 65 L x $0.10 = $6.5 by redeeming 4000 points?
