Am with Public Mobile. Paying 15$ after the loyalty stuff kicks in. Not a lot of data or minutes but works for me.

I pay $40 for 11 GB with Koodo and I'm very happy with the service.

$60 for $25 gb from Koodo.
This started as the $60 for 10 gb at Christmas a couple years ago.

Excellent article. A lot of us have been saying the same thing regularly here on RFD for a couple of years now. There is absolutely no need to stay loyal to any service provider/plan. The smart Canadians are willing to switch their plans once or twice a year to take advantage of those promo packages when they pop up. Personally i sing Freedom mobile's praises on the regular here because they've been the major reason our mobile plan prices have tumbled lower in recent years. While i no longer use their service (Currently with Telus winback, $30/25GB), I still think they are a great value for most folks living in their coverage areas. And even though my plan is pretty good, i am constantly on the lookout for something better.

Even though Freedom didn't meet all my needs, Freedom has played a good part in helping make the big 3 introduce more data at a lower price. Without a carrier like Freedom in Ont, theres a good chance the big 3 would never do anything. There was a time when 6GB for $50 was considered a hot deal

Too true. Up until 2 years ago, this was still the case.
I believe the biggest reason a lot of folks aren't jumping onto BYOD plans is because Iphones cannot be financed outside the carriers-sphere. Yes you can get a Premium Samsung device directly from the manufacturer and pay over 1+ years, but Iphones are still king in Canada, and you most people aren't prepared to part with $1,400 + HST upfront. If that changes in the future, be ready to see more exodus.

Wondering when Apple will just offer financing directly from them, I know they offer that in the states. I know best buy offers financing, but do phones apply?

Yah I'm finding if you're the kind of person who uses RFD you can keep your cell costs down by jumping on deals. Judging it by regular pricing is a bit misleading.

I'll also 2nd that Freedom/Shaw Mobile seems to have had an impact. While I haven't seen deals get down to my $35 and $39 for 10gb plans on Koodo, they seem to be getting closer and closer. It'll be shame if they let Roger's absorb Freedom/Shaw Mobile.

I'd vote for anyone who says AND follows through with wrecking this nasty telecom cartel. But the question is, who's actually gonna DO it? Everyone SAYS they're gonna do it, but no one does. Sell outs across the spectrum.
