Expand storage and case for new ipad pro 12.9.

Wife is Getting a new iPad pro 12.9 with 128 Gb storage. What would be a good, reliable way to expand storage.

Also what would be a good case, apple prices for cases are ridiculous.

Any ideas are appreciated.

You can’t expand storage?

The best you can do is unload your photos to external storage.

Do you really use your iPad as a camera?

The iPad has USB C, if you just want movies, you can use a USB C drive to add storage, but I am not sure you will want something tethered to your iPad constantly

Cases are a crap shoot

Wife's ipad. She does art work which takes space. Likes to save her time-consuming work on external drives. No camera usage but lots of art work, NFT and photo touch ups.

How big are her files? It should not take up that much space

Shared network drive.

Or go Android: microSD expansion and/or USB mass storage drive.

That could work. I speak Android. To her Android is the plague.

You can connect an USB drive or SD card reader to the USB-C port

Connect external storage devices to iPad
You can use the Files app and other supported apps to access files stored on external devices, such as USB drives and SD cards, connected to your iPad.

If she is an artist, she will live in ProCreate. There is no ProCreate on Android

No Apple Pencil on Android either

I think she is married in secret to ProCreate !

She's getting a new 12.9 ipad pro from another RFDer so we don't know where that relationship is going!

That's the thing about Apple's "Pro" devices -- they don't come with a lot of storage and for more storage, you have to buy Apple storage: be it iCloud or pay for more built-in storage upfront. Both are very expensive and can get very expensive. Apple devices have never supported expandable storage by design. More storage, like services is gravy money for Apple.

If there are Apple-only apps that your wife uses on a regular basis, there's no way around this than to pay for more storage upfront. You could also plug in a USB-C thumb drive or better yet an SSD. I don't imagine that your wife would be mobile (running around, being actively moving) while using the iPad. Another rather ugly way (but it works) is to velcro the SSD to the back of the iPad case so it's not hanging off and putting stress on the USB-C port if you need to move the iPad while in operation. If you use a USB-C thumb drive, you'll need to make sure it's small in size so you don't accidentally break the USB-C port by torquing it or snapping the connector inside. Apple devices are uber expensive to fix -- especially at the Pro level -- and if you can access repair service.

Unfortunately, Google has given up on Android tablets, so your only option is to go Samsung for any Android pro level tablets. They look good and rather equivalent to iPad Pros on the surface (surface: get it? lol) , but their workflow is very different than iPads -- and you're again stuck if the important apps are iOS only and used to the iOS workflow. Confused Face

As I've always said, Apple is a brilliant company with insane profit margins and making money hand over fist if you're a shareholder, but as a customer, not so much. But you got to hand it to Apple, who finally cracked the tablet computing market by offering a very good and simplified user experience when MS tried to, but failed by cramming a full-fat computer OS into a tablet. Hence, pay the admission/ransom as whatever amount they demand or you're not entering that walled garden.

Then again, if it is a business expense, maybe the cost will be worth it.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Why settle for full retail price when you can wait and get it at a lower price for better value (even better if there's a bundled freebies deal)? 😉

We went the USB-C thumb drive route.

We bought the apple adapter yesterday and looking for a reliable name brand stick.

The apple guy was crazy knowledgeable about pro create and wanted to sell my wife the 12.9 ipad pro but hers is coming on Tuesday from our own RFDer Mozak 2. She's stopped using Photoshop and Illustrator altogether now.
