This is the psychedelic TV with the funky colors depending on the angle of attack, time of day, and cycle of the moon.

Good buy as modern art.

It is "new" and the interface looks just like the generic RCA one.
That said, last time I checked, friends wouldn't let their friends spend more than $50 on FD electronics.
For those that are still going to do it anyway, just make sure you clear the return policy with the store (and have it written on the back of the receipt, assuming they tell you it's can be returned for a refund) before paying for it and leaving.

OLD model. Video was published 4 years ago. I would avoid. At least it supports HDMI 2.0.

You will get no support from the manufacturer (it appears they disavow anything pre-2017). You will get no support from Factory Direct.

(I'm typing this on an even older Seiki, which I actually like (considering).)

PS: there is likely a TV setting that gets rid of lag.

Yup, apparently there is a firmware update that introduces a "PC Mode" which kills post-processing and reduces lag (assuming you can find it).

That said according to the reviews on Amazon (https://www.amazon.ca/Seiki-SE42UM-42-I ... merReviews) this TV lacks HDCP 2.2 support, so you wont be able to send it any DRM'ed 4K signal (so no 4k Netflix, Google Play movies, amazon prime, BR, .. etc), not even worth $230 with that limitation.

The Walmart listing for this says that it does HDMI 2.2. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Seiki-SE42UM ... /126851150
That doesn't make it true.

I've always assumed that TV latency is to allow better interpolation of frames. Something I don't want in a computer monitor. But you do want it for TV or movies because there are fewer frames in the input than there are on the output. So having a setting to turn off interpolation and latency is a Good Thing. I admit that this has been a guess on my part because the TV manuals don't want to confuse me with technical details.

(Naive explanation: to reasonably synthesize a middle frame, between the preceding one and the next one, you need to have both of those. So the output of the middle frame must come after the input of the next frame. Plus computation time. So there you have latency of 1 frame + compute time. And sophisticated interpolation surely requires more than one frame from the future.)

I would take amazon reviews over 3rd party seller listing on WM any time of the day.
Apparently there is SE42UMS (HDCP 2.2) and SE42UM (HDCP 1.4)
Here is the other WM listing: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Seiki-SE42UM ... k/48518879
Furthermore, besides amazon reviews, similar confirmations can be found on: https://www.overclock.net/forum/351-hdt ... hread.html
There is also the chance that FD unit is the SE42UMS, but it's a risk not worth taking, just keep an eye on the next TV sale at RCSS/SDM/Maxi, safer deals for similar price tag can certainly be scored.

looking to play my Super Nes, Genesis roms off my original modded XBOX. I hear CRT TV's are best for this but can someone suggest a lighter alternative since those tube TVs are heavy to lug around. Which type of modern HDtv would be best for my scenario? Why is CRT best for retro gaming?

what about 10-12yrs ago flat screen lcd pc monitors as they much lighter than a tube tv - depends what size screen you are looking for as those were generally 17/19" or smaller as they counted bezel size as part of the screen those early days :)

if you really want retro you need orange/green screen Commodore PETS :) good luck on that crap as that was no apple lisa :)
