Failed oil change turns into mechanic tampering my brakes?

So I went to costco to get an oil change.. after holding my car for 40 minutes, they advised me they don't have the oil filter in stock to perform the oil change.

Normally I would be okay with this but this was the 2nd time in a row they have come up with this excuse. I badly needed an oil change so I told the gentleman on the phone that this was unacceptable and he ended up being smart with me and saying "what that we don't have the filter in stock, its somehow unacceptable?" He then passed me onto his manager who offered me a free oil change when they get it in stock.

When I picked up my car, I noticed that when I pressed down on my brakes, they ended up slamming to the ground. Did they tamper with my brakes because I gave them a bit of a hard time on the phone? Is there a way I can prove this?

Yes I’m sure they messed with your brakes because they didn’t have your oil filter in stock.

“Hey this guys been waiting, 40 mins, let’s tamper with his brakes and maybe kill him...that’ll show him.”

So you were there at the Costco when you picked up your car and found out about the brakes? Why didn't you go inside and ask them?

I'm not sure how I was supposed to bring it up... ask them if they did anything to my brakes?

When I press on the pedal it makes a big screeching noise.. it just feels very off and wasn't like that when I drove to Costco.

You probably have a rupture in your brake lines. Common on older cars 10+ years . Check brake oil level, if empty, don't drive it as you will put yourself at risk, take to mechanic.

Hard to prove Costco fault probably conincidence, unless the guy misplaced one of the hoist arms causing line damage. Did they hoist it? Probably no since they don't have your filter.

Lmao upset at a 40 min wait. Did you expect Costco to take your car in immediately when you dropped it off? There's a que of cars waiting and it took a bit of time to get to yours.

It's a 2011 Camry.

Would they do any type of work on the car and then realize they dont have the filters? Or would they first check the filter before they do any type of work?

LoL ...The Camry is one of the popular cars and they don't have a filter for it ? ...very laughable !
Two, there are no mechanics at Costco, tire/oil change techs are not allowed to touch your brakes or steering systems, only a certified mechanic is allow to touch or consult you on what needs to be done.

Yeah it's happened twice now.. what are the odds of that?!

Would they have done any type of draining before they realized they don't have an oil filter?

Many off brand filters will fit the Camry. If its the 6cyl its the same oil filter that will fit the Avalon, Sienna, Rav4, Highlander, Venza, Scion TC and Lexus IS25, ES300, ES350 etc... !
The OEM filter is a Denso.

Just drive you car slowly on a road with no traffic and pull and release the e-brake a couple of times to see if you feel the e-brakes engaging or not. If you feel it it's not stuck !

Call up another Costco and ask if that Costco you went to has your oil filter in stock. If yes, then you'll know they lied to you.

But why would they lie to me about not having the oil filter?

Because they know that they fudged up your car but don't want to admit it.

perhaps coincidence? The three Costco (Richmond Hill, two Markham) location that I go to is pretty good in terms of oil change and tires, I mean that's all they do, so to mess up your brake lines, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Brakes slammed to the ground? Sue the pants of Costco. Clearly the disgruntled mechanic wanted you to hurt your feet.

These are lowly paid tire/oil change jockeys. They get paid regardless if they have to change the oil or not. Why work if they don't have to !
Costco sells motor oil, batteries and tires, they don't sell oil filters. You would have had a better chance that Walmart would have had the oil filter as Walmart sells all of those items.
