Is this a fair bathroom quote?

Hi guys,

I got quoted $8600 to install and supply new bathtub and tiles surrounding the tub with water resistant drywall and Redgard waterproofing membrane.

Location is North York.
Is this fair?

Thanks

Fair, if it is an experienced company with paperwork and licensed plumber.

Too much if it is just some guy from Kijiji.

I think it is fair in the current market.

Is it actually true that fall and winter would be cheaper?

In this current climate, I highly doubt it. We were talking to the guys who did our ensuite last March and they told us they're booked well into the fall of 2023. Same with several other renovation companies we talked to. At least the good ones.

Quote from 3 different contractors and then compare.

There may be more deals to be had if interest rates start rising steeply. Fewer people will have disposable income for renovations.

The challenge is that good contractors will always be busy and typically not need to reduce their price.

Reno prices have risen as was posted, you also need to consider what materials are being installed. A nice tub is 2K or higher but there are tubs under 500. Same for the tub faucet, it can be $125 or 750....same for tiles. So 8600 can be 1000 or 4000 in materials, if its the latter then 8600 is ok if its a good tiler doing that work.

One thing I've learned about renos is to ask for a cost breakdown between parts & labour, or at least details on what material they will be using. Sometimes they use cheap material to cut down their costs.

This didn't really worked for us. We were trying to get the quotes for kitchen renos and all three quotes were like 10K+ apart from each other. I went through SOW with each contractor with a lens but still HUGE difference in labour price. All three contractors were reputable. Only now I am more confused than ever.
I don't think that quotes we received are comparable by any means even though the material is more or less same.
