No, usually the side punch out is used to route wire if it is being installed against a 2x4 above it.buysell2008 wrote: ↑ but thats the one with 10-32 machine screws that will hold it against the ceiling 2x4. you mean, i will also have to clamp the wires below this to hold its place and use the same screws to mount the box to the ceiling?

1 is to screw to an overhead joist. The 4 holes on both sides are for sidemount installationbuysell2008 wrote: ↑ need some help. which hole needs to be used for 10-32 screw goes in hole 1 or 2 or 3 as identified in the latest screenshot.

The 10-32 screws are in the "ears" located at the top right and bottom left corners in your image. You did not number these in your image. They are used to hold the lamp/fan fixture to the box. They are not used for mounting to a joist or stud.buysell2008 wrote: ↑ but thats the one with 10-32 machine screws that will hold it against the ceiling 2x4.
The cable has to be clamped as it enters the box, and that is what screw #3 is for (as well as the clamp/screw on other side of the box).buysell2008 wrote: ↑i will also have to clamp the wires below this to hold its place and use the same screws to mount the box to the ceiling?
