Fast food restaurants that cheat customers

This Youtube video seems to only be USA, but it's still an interesting video, including @ 4:21 where they show how a McDonald's french fry holder is squeezed to look more full of fries.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I saw the mcdonalds one last month so I tested it at mcdonalds, definitely not true in canada
First they scoop the fries when you order it, it's not sitting on the side ready, and also I can see them fill it.

Sometimes the worker doesn't fill the fry box fully.

I found with fast food it really depends on the ownership since most are franchise locations, sometimes the owner tells the employees to not give extra toppings or skim on toppings. It happens with Pizza all the time.

If you watched the video you'd know how they do it.

Same with movie theater popcorn. Always give the bag a couple of good shakes to make it settle, then ask staff to top it off. My GF does this to get full'value' for their already overpriced food

This is from the time before the electronic kiosks came along. A few times a year I made use of the coupons and got the two can dine breakfast deal for me and my wife. When they'd ask about what kind of drink I want, I'd say "coffee", then I noticed there'd be an extra charge (don't remember how much) because they would provide a medium coffee and the coupon is valid for small. But of course the cashier would not mention this, they just provide medium by default. The next time I said "small coffee" and avoided the charge (and got the smaller drink which is big enough anyway).

Yup. the coupon still reads "small coffee". They should only be ringing up what the coupon allows unless you say otherwise.

When I get popcorn at the movies it's usually over flowing and I drop a couple going to my seat(Ciniplex). Not sure how you'd shake it. Unless you were shaking all the popcorn off the top onto the floor and then asking them to fill it again lol

Somewhere
I stand by the counter and watch them fill my fries.

A lot of the times, they do one scoop for the medium fries and the same one scoop for the large fries.

Once, the large fries was half full, with the fries just sitting at the top to make it LOOK full. I lifted it upright, had all the fries drop to the bottom, and told the McD person that it's half full. She rolled her eyes at me and filled it up. This was the Yonge-Dundas location (on Yonge, north of Dundas).

Don't play games with my fries.

I agree the theatre food is overpriced, but shaking a bag of popcorn to get it to settle down so I can squeeze a little bit more popcorn in there has always felt unnecessary to me. Most of the time I am taking half a bag of popcorn home as leftovers and I won't even eat all the leftovers before I eventually decide to throw it out.

I also don't consider this a "cheat" in terms of this thread. I don't think any theatre chain is trying to screw customers out of popcorn to increase their profit margin. Some concession workers don't do a great job of opening the bags and in those cases the popcorn settles all on its own when they set it on the counter. In any event, if they refuse to top it off when someone requests after it settles, than I would feel like it is a bit of a cheat.

I want my McDonald's fries in the container lined up vertically like a pack of smokes.

Then why is it still over flowing when I put the seasoning in and shake the bag? I have to eat everything at the top before I do or it’ll just fall everywhere.
It doesn’t change after I add the seasoning, why would it change if I shook it without any seasoning.

You need to tap it down on the counter to let the popcorn settle. Then you will notice the bag is only 3/4 full.

About 10-15 years ago, the Burger King in that area (south of Dundas) used to pinch the bottom of the fries. It was really obvious and noticeable how little fries you were getting. That BK also used to be filled with all sorts of degenerates (don't know about now as I haven't been in the area in years). But I remember some guys calling out the manager for pinching the bottom of the fries container and that turned into a shouting match where other people started arguing. The security guard (that location had a security guard all the time even during the day) then started kicking people out.

I'll wager you $100.
Film yourself walking into a cineplex, start filming outside. If you buy a large popcorn and you can 'shake' it down to 3/4's of the bag I'll give you $100. The popcorn has to be overflowing before you shake it, like you said. Should cover food and the movie. If you can't then buy some food for the homeless equivalent to $100
