Feds Pushing for Lower Cell Plans or Else

So the government is telling the big 3 cell phone providers to cut the pricing of the plans by 25% or they will force them to do it within 2 years.

Cell plans are expensive but not crazy about the idea of the government grandstanding like this. If it is too expensive, choose a cheaper plan.

I'd rather have the government open it's door to new player(s) to create more competition. (ie MVNO)

Them (government) enforcing this agenda will only get Robellus to find other ways to gouge us. (ie activation fee)

Remember what happened to the supposedly cheaper base cable packages that Robellus was ordered to offer

What's the next fake project for JT ? 25% lower car prices ? I'm pretty sure private companies in Canada are independant of the government. They set the prices as to what the market allows for prices . JT is confusing Canada with China .

Sad part is that 25% off isn't even competitive when you compare it to other countries around the world. For comparison, Giffgaff, an MVNO in the UK is doing a promo, 20 GBP (~C$35) for 80 GB of data:

Oh and you can use it anywhere in the EU as part of the plan even if it's reduced down to 20GB/month, it's still a steal of a plan!

Yeah, that is the thing. They are a private company. Sure, the government can put in terms that can force any industry to do certain things but at the end of the day, it will be consumers that end up paying one way or another. It is an easy beachball for the government to hit saying that we are looking after you the little guy against the big bad phone company but who are we really fooling?

Yeah cant really compare the UK. They have a smaller area and less towers and that's the argument , the big 3 will use.

Rogers just announced there will be a $15 monthly charge for 5G access. Expect Bell & Telus to follow suit. Robellus gonna Robellus

MVNO is the way to go.

Attraxt Verizon or even Google to come to Canada. That should be enough to force them to lower prices

It's a dumb idea because of the overstepping.

Furthermore, this initiative, only applies to 2GB to 6GB plans. Bell, Rogers, and Telus have moved past 6GB for published in-market plans, so those won't be impacted anyways.
