fence repair costs

My neighour, while getting some other work done, wants to repair our shared fence. In the opinion of the contractor, its leaning and should be dealt with. While 1 post is leaning, I don't see a reason to replace the rest of the posts at this moment because they look fine.

The contractor gave us our share of the cost to replace the whole fence, which is $800. While COVID and other house repairs we had to do has tightened our wallets, we will split the cost if the fence really does need to be replaced.

The shared fence is about 40 feet, with 6 posts including the end posts.

I'm going to start getting quotes for the job, just wanted to gather some opinions before. Is $1600 total cost ($800 shared) to replace a 40 foot, 6 post fence reasonable? While I will not knock on anyone's labour cost, I don't want to overspend.

I can't really find a consensus for average cost for a 6 foot, 4x4 post wood fence. I am seeing ranges from $25/linear foot to $40/linear foot. What is an appropriate cost in 2020?

Thanks.

Picture?
How bad is it? My fence, 1 post is leaning too. It is quite normal for old fence, my is 17 years.
I hate to speculate. I hate to forecast. I am just proactive.

There is a lumber shortage so you might be better to wait until next year if you can.....

Considering I was quoted 6,000 for 15 posts fence I would say yes its reasonable just dividing the amount

If it's just one post you could get a couple EZ-Menders and band-aid the post until the rest of the fence needs replacing.

how old is the fence ??

if you don't feel that anything other than 1 post is an issue, why not talk to your neighbor and work it out.

After all, this whole project is your neighbors idea.......

We moved into the house a few months ago so I don't really know how old the fence is.

I have have used those in my previous house as well as out in 3 new posts. I could do it myself, just not a lot of time right now.

I'll see if I can talk to the again.

I had a couple of broken posts replaced a few years ago for $250 each by Renew Fence based in Guelph. They did good work. Google them if they are still around.

Re cost....$40 is near the top end for a 6 foot high fence with lattice top. Some are charging $45 and that was before the shortage.
