Hey guys , just got this plan , Thanks OP
Now I have a question : I do not receiving incoming msg's , tried to sent msg from my cell phone ,but no result it said "sent "but nothing received
how you guys getting confirmation text for whatsapp or uber .
Is textnow or fongo # will work for this .
I had chat with Fido today and asked to block my outgoing call and texts , that's answer I got : the new data only plans that we have, there is no longer the possibility of pay per use calls or sms. A restriction is not needed.
Any one know about this as well .
I just sent myself a text and it went through.

Did you manage to get a tablet with it?

I was told I need to have an existing Fido cell plan to get a $15 tablet plan and iPad, is that the case?

it is the exact question I wanted to ask. I have 2 tablet plans for $15 each (got extra discount also) but I thought I heard that they no longer allow new tablet plan without any cellphone plan. Is it the case. The first page of this forum does not specify that though.

It does.

Happen the same with me!
I signed for a wireless plan (cheapest plan $50) (connection fee waived + free sim) and signed for the tablet plan ($35 connection fee + free sim)
Tomorrow I’ll be canceling the wireless plan, which will cost me 1 day of the post paid plan (around $2) and keep the tablet plan...

You heard wrong, it's still YMMV and the workarounds are fully addressed in OP and thread summary.

Call Fido and get them to unblock SMS receiving on your SIM.
You are using the plan as advertised (in a tablet) and you should be able to receive SMS'es as the tablet supports it, you can argue that your friends and their friends have SMS working on their Fido data-only plans and your agreement mentions no such limitation.
Don't call and complain if you have the SIM inside a phone, rep will see it when your account is pulled and they will call your bluff.

What does the Account Confirmation (that you should have gotten when you set up the plan) say? Mine says: I tend to believe what my legal contract with Fido says over what some random Fido chat agent says. YMMV.
when you sign up to WhatsApp, you need to provide cell# and confirm it after they send confirmation msg, same with Uber .. etc.
