They gave away 5 GB for 14 months as free bonus in fall, so this is actually a reduction.

All these Fido bonus GB offers are super YMMV. On our accounts, some have gotten it (5GB, 10GB) and others have not. I can't figure out the logic in the algorithm (one person who uses a lot got 10GB bonus on a 10GB plan; the other on the 10GB plan using little got nothing). I used to think they offered the bonus to the customers never needing it, now I'm just confused.

Data is now cheap. Carriers' share prices are largely measured on ARPU (Average Revenue Per User). They are also measured on subscriber growth, which is harder now that everybody has a phone; they need to steal from each other to get growth as organic growth is rather low.
They would rather give you a lot of data for a bit more money than ever reduce your bill. Cost of data is low, revenue is key. Some people need a lot of data, others are just paying more than they should.
The carriers and their shareholders thank you all.

I saw a 40GB for $70, but I'm already on 35GB for $60 so I passed.

Fido gave me a free 15 GB bonus more than a year ago and it still is on my account until May 2022.

So my plan is $40 for 12GB, but I actually get 27 GB every month :)
