[Fido] Retention, $72/8GB, Free iPhoneX

Retailer:: Fido

I switched to Public Mobile ($40/4.5GB plan) 2 weeks ago. (I was on Fido 2+2GB $45 plan)
Received a call from Fido Customer Service today.
They offered $72/8GB, Unlimited Calling, , free iPhone X on a 2 year contract.
I said that I'm going to think about it (not really), they sent me the text message with phone number 1-866-396-3436 EXR 3897) that I should call to get the promo.

You're paying for that "free" iPhone at $72 a month.
Better off migrating to Koodo for the $40/8GB plan.

I received the same call back when I cancelled my plan, they offered 10GB for the same amount and a free Galaxy S9. I still said no because 10GB of data would tempt me to spend too much time online.

Sell the iphone for $1000, the Fido plan is $31 a month for 24 month, Fido offer is a better deal. If you're going to buy the iPhone anyways outright from the Apple store, the Fido offer is a better deal.

Fido winback also offers $60 5GB with the same phone, sometimes with a few hundred dollar credit thrown in, even a better deal.

Did I say Fido overall is a better deal?

I thought retentions/winback offered a $500 credit on top of what you are offered OP. Was there any mention of that?

It's on the Rogers Winback and that's hotter than Koodo imo

+1 Rogers/Fido WinBack (if you are an ex customer) is hotter than the Koodo Migration deal.

WinBack offers $500 credit, free phone, and $80/10GB for Rogers.

If I understand, this is a Fido retention because you left them. It is NOT a Public Mobile retention or Public Mobile specific offer.

if you need/want the iphone x it is a no brainer.. no harm to try to bargin a bit more.. knock down the monthly fee. If you dont need a phone see if you can get a price match(or better) on the plan itself. no harm to try. if no go than stay on pm. I dont think the fido university offer is still available but you can also try that. Best of luck to you.

What I mean is there will be a better deal for the current versions being offered. I guarantee you Fido will drop their price on this retention deal for the same phone and term. It may take a few more weeks....whenever the newer phones become available in Canada. The big ticket item will be the new XS, so that will make the price on these drop.

So if I am with Fido now, is it advisable to switch to Public Mobile just to get this offer? I am looking for a new phone and it'd be nice to get an iphone x for essentially $23 a month (since I am on the 8gb $49 plan)

32*24 is still a lot less than the actual cost of the IpX so the deal is pretty good. After 24 months he can just switch to someone else

Koodo, Fido, Telus, Public Mobile, Virgin customer.

your math doesn't make financial sense. Assume you get the koodo deal for $40/8GB and you finance the iphone X for 24 months with no interest, you are still paying (1320/24) $55 + $40 = $95 per month if you were to go with the koodo route.

$72 plan - $40 = $32 per month for 24 months = $768 cost of the iphone X in this plan. After 2 years, just move to a cheaper plan if they don't offer a free Iphone 12

$72 is the price of the plan and phone, $40 is price of plan only (migration to Koodo from Public Mobile 8gb)
This means $32 can be considered the price of the phone.
