Called during boxing week to upgrade my phone early, still had $133 remaining on my previous phone (done in May). They offered me a 4GB plan at $48.75 (that's with 25% off) and the iPhone X, and in total I paid $620 for the upgrade, meaning my phone clocked in around $500. I am pretty happy with this, but it seems others may have been more successful.

Did they offer you a new device with any of these? (thinking of calling to see about upgrading to iPhone 8).

Since it’s a choice of tab, you’d pick the device and apply tab to it.
2015 wins: Trip for 2 to NYC with airfare, limo, hotel and insurance ($3700); Maple Leafs tickets($250); 32GB HTC One M9 ($700), Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1($200), Samsung Galaxy Note 5($850), Aukey 2 port fast car charger($23), Fitbit Flex ($120), Blue Piston Bluetooth Speaker ($30). 2016 wins: nada

Here’s my Fido Boxing Day agreement:

$55 / 5GB medium plan
$99 iPhone 8 Plus 64GB
HUP waived

(Upgraded from $45 / 4GB BYOD loyalty plan).

So the summary of my new plan is as follows:

6GB, Unlimited Call/Text (They could not match Koodo for some reason after their own promotion expired) for 67.75$/month
100$ Credit because of CS issues (I have spent many hours on the phone and I've lost track of the amount of times I have been transferred)
234$ Tax in iPhone Xs 64GB.

I bought out my previous iPhone SE 128GB for 120.89$. I'm in Quebec just to give an idea of my retention rate.

Thanks h2lam. I definitely must have misread.

Before knowing this, I actually called Fido 1 more time because I thought I would port to Koodo, good thing I didn't. I asked if they have any promo on S9+ instead of S9, and here is what they offered.
Summarizing the two plans that they have offered me today:

1) $52.50/ month 4gb data (25% off of the $70 plan for 2 years)
iphone 8 or samsung s9 for free (waived the $149 downpayment)
$75 statement credit
no mention of activation fee or taxes

2) 63.75/month, 5gb (25% off of the $85 plan for 2 years)
iphone 8 plus or samsung s9+ for free (waived the $349 downpayment)
Activation fee ($35) and taxes waived (not sure how significant that is)
I just called Fido to see if I could get this iPhone 8 deal and they told me it expired on Jan 7th and "absolutely no one could bring it back". They said the best they could do was:
iPhone 8 for $129 - $75 credit = $54
XL $120-25% = $117/month for 4GB

Currently I'm on a BYOD plan that's $50/month for 5GB. So, if I'm doing my math right the difference in the price of my current plan to the new offer - over 2 years - would cost me an extra $1600, which is basically double the price of the iPhone 8 if I bought it outright. Maybe that's not the right way I should be thinking about it, but I think I'll hang onto my plan and iPhone 6 for a while longer. :)

That would be the right way of thinking about it. That's an absolutely lousy deal.

Plus, I wouldn't buy an iPhone 8 at this point anyway. May as well get an XS (or cheaper X) or XR (which is bigger).

That deal is terrible. Might as well port your number to another carrier (such as Fizz), wait a week and ask for Winback offers. Or just ask if they'll match Fizz pricing.

Isn't Fizz Quebec and Ottawa only?

Then freedom.

You will get nowhere close to winback deals with retentions. You will pay hundreds more by playing retentions instead of playing winback.

Seems like u either have to port out or have no agreement to get the best deal.

Managed to get s9 on a small tab ($35 1 gb plan) for $120 but got $225 credits via fido before i upgrade at the store and $25 credits to cover upgrade fee.

Port to get the best. If you’re a recent port out, the credit is $500, the plans are generally somewhat better and the subsidized price is usually lower to start. They’ll usually waive any fees is you ask. If you ported to freedom they give an extra 3GB to whatever plan you have.

There is a risk you won’t get a winback offer though, so weigh that risk.

Wife used all her data. Called fido to ask what options does she have. The agent gave her 2gb free for 3 months, and 3gb free for 24 months on top of her $40/4gb plan. So 9gb for 3 months, and then 7 gb to use for 24 months.

I pushed my luck with the 50% off data plan, and he said sure no problem. Gave that to me without any hesitation.
