[Fido] YMMV Convert Prepaid to Postpaid, keep your balance, and get free tablet (on tablet plan)!

VERY YMMV, but perhaps others can get it to?

Summary: I was able to transfer my prepaid balance to postpaid credit, and sign up for a $10/month, 250 min, 250 text BYOD plan, and once that was set up, get my free tablet on a tablet plan!

Long description:

I've had a backup SIM for years now on the Fido $10/month prepaid topup, no included minutes or anything (yes, I know there are cheaper options).

Since I rarely use the plan, I build up quite a balance.

Fido has for years tried to entice me to convert to postpaid, but the offers were always lacklust, and I always would end up loosing my prepaid balance (usually hundreds of dollars).

Well, Fido got me with the following text:

20210805_130818.jpg
20210724_101913.jpg

Switching was a breeze, although the rep did mention about 300 times that the credit wouldn't show up on my Fido account until the second month.

So, I waited for the second month to post this, and all is right in the world!

Once I had that, I signed up for the tablet plan with free tablet as second line!

Both lines are also Fido Xtra compatible if that is important.

Good luck!

how does the prepaid plan work? you pay $10 (or $15) per month and once you top-up it carries over?

I don’t recal Fido having a $10 prepaid plan, especially not for 250 minutes. The lowest I’ve seen for 75 minutes at $15

Anyone know how I can get in on this $10 plan?

OP is saying the 250 min thing is postpaid, not necessarily prepaid

Prepaid on Fido kinda sucks, they don't have cheap top ups with long expiry periods. I don't at all recommend Fido prepaid.

I topped up $10 every 30 days. It was a pay as you go setup, no preset minutes or texts.

Ahh, sorry for the confusion. I was on a 'pay as you go' plan on prepaid, NO included minutes or texts. The $10/month was purely to keep the account open (since the balance expired in 30 days if you only top up $10).

Correct, my 'plan' on prepaid didn't include any minutes. Sorry about that!

im currently on PM and after discounts its at 12+tax. i stay home most of the time and dont call that much or receive any calls at all lol. i was thinking the $100 fido yearly plan maybe could fit my needs and it will be much cheaper compared to the PM plan im using.

if i understand it correctly, the $100 yearly plan comes with 400 mins and once those minutes are all consumed it goes to 15c /min until the $400 is all used up?

and after a year, top up with $100 again, and whatever leftover from the previous year gets carried over?

I know you have to call them to have the $10 for 250 minutes....... You meant you asked the CSR to sign up for the tablet plan right away or you did it online by yourself? What is the final cost with all the taxes? I have $200 in my account right now. The tablet plan also includes 4G data?

I never talked to a CSR for the tablet plan. After I transferred to the $10/month 250 plan, I went online, and signed up for a second line.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'final cost'? The tablet was free.

The tablet plan is full LTE speed.

Thank you very much for your response. I meant with the 250 minutes plan, 4gb and tablet, the monthly bill is still $10 plus taxes? I tried to the 4gb data plan, my coast for the data plan is $10 + $6.77 - $13.17 + taxes =$4.04.

No, the deal at the time was the mobility is $10/month, and the tablet is $10/month, so total for the two plans is $20+taxes/month.

Thank you very much. I saw it somewhere that says the data plan is $5 plus taxes after credits but mine only came up to $4.04 (taxes included) after credits.
