First glance of the Horus Bennu tripod w/ LX-1T ballhead from ebay. $85 shipped

I was desperately in need of a good value tripod and looked no further then the Korean designed Horus Bennu 747x excalibur tripod with the LX-1T ballhead. I wouldnt necessarily call this a "light" tripod, but it's definitely lighter, sturdier, and better made then most similar tripods in store at the same price point. Shipping was free and I received it within 5 business days via EMS/ Canada Post express.

There is not much flex to this tripod and the materials used are excellent. Leg movements are super smooth and very tight. The only gripe I have about this tripod is that the leg locking mechanism is plastic, but so far it seems to hold up well and locks tightly as it should. I'm no pro photographer, but I've had several tripods in the past and this is the best one I've ever owned. If you're going to be dropping dollars on tripods at best buy or walmart then you might as well buy this one since it's alot better then the tripods they sell in those stores with the exception of a couple of higher end manfrottos at bestbuy for around $250..

tripod link on ebay is here, you may make an offer with him, but please don't lowball: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Horusbennu-747X ... OR:US:1123

This tripod can hold my 50d with a battery grip, 70-200 F4L IS, EX420 flash in all orientation along with my camera bag hanging underneath it acting as a weight.

Bag: Very well made, very well padded and the straps are nicely secured to the bag

The tripod measures about 55cm in closed form.

Plastic leg locking. Not the best feeling plastic material, but it works as it should

LX-1T ballhead in red. Has a panning function

It's slightly dusty since I didnt get a chance to clean it

Comes with the quick mounting plate as well

Leg's can open wide out for macro photography or if you just like getting down and dirty with the camera.

No problems holding this up in any orientation

have you had a chance to use it yet? any updated thoughts? i was thinking about getting one of the carbon fiber ones from this company but with the ballhead its still up over $200... given that this one can hold your 70-200 tho, im starting to think maybe i should just get this one... i rarely use the tripod so i dont want to spend gitzo type money, but i dont want a 5 dollar walmart tripod either...

i've used it yesterday for some long exposure pictures at toronto city hall in the night on a 17-50 and 70-200mm lens

it's a pretty sturdy tripod. The ballhead works great and can handle the load. I really had to tighten the ballhead down when i had my 50d with the grip and the 70-200mm. I'm still waiting on my 70-200mm tripod ring mount to distribute the weight of the lens and camera more evenly. You can have a look at the tripod in person if you're ever in the downtown toronto area.

Hello, awesome review. I have one question before ordering tho, what did your duties and customs fee amount to? I can't seem to find the info anywhere on the web. Thanks, D

The heigth is a bit low. Do you know of any model from the same company that would make it suitable for 6 foot tall person ?

Is this still available? I don't see one with the LX-1t ballhead, but there is a similar one with a NS-BH1 head - is that comparable? better/worse?

Just bought a Manfrotto 7322YB for $50 back in January, thinking this would be be a much better tripod. The manfrotto is super portable though. Decisions!

The LX-1t also has a panning feature, the NS-BH1 doesn't. Horus Bennu does seem to have some very competitively priced and quality looking carbon fiber tripods though, have yet to read any horror stories. Might be worth looking into.

The M-2531T Tripod and LX-28T Head combo caught my eye, twist locks and a variety of colors... but the tripod is pretty short at 130cm. Appears to be a better deal to buy a head/tripod combo on some of these units.
